I brought my 1950’s vintage pearl ring to Walter Bauman for repair because their website talks so highly of their quality of service. I was trying to avoid just having a drop of glue added to the setting and the pearl placed back in, but was told it was a similar process and that it was the best case to make sure the pearl was secure. After talking through the process, I was comfortable with leaving my ring. They offered to repair it same day or have me come back a week later to pick up the ring so the repair had time to dry.

I came back 2 weeks later, and when I picked up the ring I was so disappointed. You could see a halo of liquid cement/concrete around the base of the pearl. It was easy to see just by looking at the now repaired ring. I asked if they could buff out the excess, and they tried, but overall I expressed my disappointment in the quality of the work. They did offer to redo their work, but it would require taking the pearl out of the setting, letting it dry again, and then picking it up later. I declined and took the ring home.

I looked down at my ring this morning, and the pearl is gone. To be clear, I only wear this ring during the day and it takes on normal wear and tear (washing my hands, cooking, driving, etc.) It hasn't even been 2 weeks! Today I went to Walter Bauman Jewelers in West Orange to have some of my moms jewelry that I inherited, appraised. I met with Dan Miller who did the appraisal for me. I love going to this place, everyone is always so friendly & proffesional and Dan proved that once again. He explained everything he was doing while appraising my moms diamond that my dad bought her for their 30th anniversary. Dan confirmed, my dad had great taste in jewelry! I had such a pleasant time and Dan was a blast to hang with for an hour. Plus, he cleaned the diamonds and OMG I can't stop staring at this ring. I would definitely recommend Walter Bauman Jewelers to anyone looking for good quality jewelry from a very reputable company. They have been in this location for over 50 years. However, it doesn't look like my Moms store anymore. It's beautiful inside, I could spend hours just looking around. It’s bright and cheerful and the entire front of the store is all floor to ceiling windows and it’s always spotless.
