Four Fields Furniture — Local services in West St. Paul

We had been looking for the perfect dining table for our new home -- one with soul for the centerpiece of our living area at which we would eat, work, and play -- but nothing we saw in local stores felt right. Then we discovered Adam. He made the perfect table for us, a 10-foot table made of quartersawn planks from a red oak tree that used to be on the Medina Ballroom property. This table has soul and will be with our family forever.

Adam created a truly custom table for us, and he made the whole process enjoyable. He is smart and personable and a fantastic communicator, keeping us updated with progress emails and photos. He studied photos of our house and listened carefully to the feeling we were trying to achieve; he taught us about his processes and thoughtfully answered our questions; and during the planning phase, he was open-minded and creative as we brainstormed together about wood type, thickness, and base options. He also has a great eye for color, and he knew that getting the right stain color was critical for our space. He made several stain samples for us to take home to see how they worked in our space, and we had fun experimenting with stain colors in his shop until we found the perfect mix.

Four Fields created an absolutely beautiful walnut live edge dining table for me. I am very satisfied with it.

From the beginning, the communication with Four Fields was top notch. We discussed types of woods, style, finish for what I was looking for, which was truly helpful as I had been weighing a few different options for live edge tables.

I was able to view several slabs at various price points from different sawyers that Four Fields works with. That helped me see what was out there and allowed me to narrow my focus on what I really wanted my table to look like.

As the project progressed, I received updates with pictures. This was great as you got to see your piece transform from a wood slab to a functional piece of art. I was also kept updated on how the table was coming along and if we were on track with the original schedule (we were). I was consulted on anything that came up, which avoided any 'surprises' and kept me in the loop.

Our experience with Adam Bischoff making us a truly custom-designed dining-room table so encapsulates the many laudatory comments in his published online reviews, that it is difficult to add anything new. We had a 100-year-old dining table with a lot of “character,” namely, a top with many old drill marks, and random gouges, cracks and stains. Lovely, but difficult to keep clean. The base was sturdy and beautiful. We asked Adam if he thought he could remove the tabletop without damaging the base, and create a new top for us. He appreciated the design of the base, felt optimistic it could be done, and skillfully pulled it off. It was important that the finish on a new top would be compatible with the patina of a very old and seasoned base.
