I arrived at the spa at 11:50 for my 12 pm appointment. I filled out all my forms ahead of time and I was brought into the room at 12. I changed and laid down on the table and waited for what seemed like a very long time for the therapist to get the things for the additional treatments I booked. By the time I looked at the clock it was 12:10 and the therapist still wasnât back. I had purchased a hand treatment, foot treatment, aromatherapy scalp massage and a cold stone facial. Finally around 12:15 he came back in without knocking and started the massage. I started face down and the only focus was on my back and shoulders. This was light pressure and didnât really feel that in depth. He also used hot stones that I did not want or order. Then he had me flip for the hand, foot and scalp treatment. The hand treatment was just sticking my hands in mittens full of wax that was barley melted and the foot treatment felt like some stone on my foot. Both of these were pretty quick and not impressive at all. There was no description for them on the site so maybe thatâs what they were but I honestly expected more based on my other massage experience. The scalp massage was more of a head scratch with essential oils. Again not what I was expecting from previous experience. Then he gave me a very quick leg and arm massage that was maybe 1 min top on each limb. I was shocked at the lack of massage that actually happened in my massage. Then he left the room again to get the cold stones. The cold stones were fine, again no description on the website so not sure what this version was supposed to be but felt lacking. After this he said I was all set and that he would meet me in the hall. I looked at the clock and noticed it was 12:50... I had booked an hour massage with 4 add ons (which I assumed added time to the massage again no description on website) and it still ended early after it started late and he left the room in the middle of it to go get additional items. Over all I felt no different than when I walked in other than being more annoyed. When they asked if I wanted to sign up for the monthly pass I almost laughed out loud. The whole experience was terrible. I have been to many different spas and the service I received for the price I paid was a joke. I will NOT be returning or recommending anyone...
Read moreMy one star is based on the atrocious âcustomer serviceâ by the manager Maureen when I went in for the first time this past Monday. I have three children under the age of 6 and was really looking forward to my facial. I checked in for my appt for an introductory facial with some add ons. I had a gift certificate given to me by a friend for $120 which was enough to cover these services. Maureen asked âyouâre not paying with a gift card are you?â When I said yes she scanned the gift card and informed me that the card was only to be used for a classic facial or massage, not the introductory facial. I responded that that the card was for $120, why should it matter what itâs used for? She then proceeded to argue with me and tell me that if I wanted the intro offer I could pay out of pocket today and âuse the gift card next timeâ. Iâm sorry Maureen but there wonât be a next time because of how unprofessional you are. Gift cards that are not promotional can be used for whatever products / services and this was clearly stated on the email I received and the website (even though she tried to tell me âwe donât sell gift cards for dollar amountsâ. Then WHY would the dollar amount be clearly listed on the email?). In an effort to not continue to argue she told me that my service provider was ready and that I could fill out the intake form after my service which makes no sense because I could have had allergies or contraindications for receiving a facial treatment. This is just bad business all around. I worked in the spa industry for 15 years in customer service and managerial positions and would never have treated a client the way she treated me. Upper management should pay closer attention to these reviews as mine is not the first one about unprofessionalism and poor customer experience. My facial was fine despite how upset I was with how I was treated and Kathleen the esthetician was lovely. I hope she leaves as I would gladly see her at...
Read moreI'm what they call a "heavy user" of massage services. I'm picky and like deep tissue for therapeutic reasons. Hand & Stone is just one of my options.
Things I like: The physical space is nice, the rooms are higher-end with electric height-adjustable tables and warming pads. Location works for me. Easy to find. Parking is free and usually abundant. The front-desk staff all seem friendly and competant. Online booking (while it was offline for most of a year!?) is easy to navigate and book. The membership price is reasonable, if you don't include the "recommended tip". Credits roll over and they will allow you to pause your membership for 3 months.
Things I don't like: "Recommended tip" is based on the "full price" and nobody would actually pay the "full price" outside of the membership unless they were silly. I tip really good normally. But here, I default to less because I hate being told what to do. I think they should just make the price the price and abolish the tip. $10 upcharge for deep tissue. This tells me that the "default" is a basic rub-down massage. I shouldn't have to pay extra for someone to put their elbow into a knot, or even worse, pay for deep tissue and not get it. Cancelling is tricky because you need to cancel when you don't have any unused credits. Using up credits can be tough due to scheduling.
It just is: The massage varies greatly by the therapist. This is normal for any spa. You can view your massage history in the online booking app, so you can make note of who to try again and who isn't a good fit. Additionally, there is some churn, so it can be hard to stay with a good therapist. Word gets around about good therapists, and they can be tricky to book. I wish all spas had notes about the style of the therapist. There are therapists who love deep tissue, some who are great at trigger point, some who prefer more relaxing styles, etc. It would take some of the guess...
