This place is my go to spot! Great apps, ok entrees, and great drinks. One thing I have noticed though is to never go on a Friday or Saturday if you plan on dining in. Sitting at the bar is nice because the drinks are there, the bartenders are attentive, and usually get your food to you quickly. Recently I went on Friday, May 2nd and placed my name on the waitlist at 746pm. There was some sort of fire alarm that went off in the building but ultimately was called for a table for myself, my wife, my mom and my infant son at 836pm. 45 min give or take, its a Friday night , makes sense. After being seated is where the issues kind of began. I was with my infant and was sat near the open patio when many open tables were available. It was kind of cold for my kid but hey, I brought him. I just thought the literal 13 other open tables away from the cold air would make sense for the hostess to realize but whatever. A* waitress came by and took initial drink orders and delivered promptly. A second time around, an app was ordered (fried pickles if you were wondering, which are amazing per usual) and again, promptly delivered by another waitress whom was not our original. No biggie. We then waited about 25 minutes to place an order for our food, and didn’t receive it for another 40 minutes(which one order was wrong but hey , all the foods good so whatever. After getting our food, it was cold, and although tasty, it was just …. Cold and that was kind of saddening for me. we realized if we wanted anything to think of it all at once because there was really no telling when our waitress would be back, if she would even be back. So , no refills, no extra napkins, no extra sauce, not even some waters for the table. What makes this so sad is the time it took for all this to occur and while we were finishing up our food, it appeared that the waitress we were waiting on all night was working hard to clean up the patio furniture, waiting on tables on the other side of the restaurant, and seemed a bit overworked. I empathized with that….. UNTIL we finally asked for the check, and it looked like that was the fastest service we had received all night, the check was printed, brought to the table, our debit card was placed in the check thing, and the waitress quickly returned to grab the payment and brought back our receipt in a blink of an eye. About 2.5 hours later is when we were finally able to leave, and overall, just an upsetting experience at the tavern. Hope we can do better on Friday nights at the dine in area. Sincerely, A loyal tavern guy
P.s. I will return again, just hoping for a better, more usual experience...
Read moreI decided to celebrate Father’s Day at Tavern in the Square in Weymouth, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. To start, the wait time was exaggerated. We were told it would be an hour and a half, but we received a text saying our table was ready after just 40 minutes. When seated, we were given a high top table, despite clearly preferring a regular table. We were told we'd have to wait another 15 minutes for a low table, even though there were several empty ones nearby.
After being seated, our waitress greeted us and took our drink orders but never introduced herself. My first cocktail was superb, though the serving size felt small. When I tried to order a second drink (a Tanqueray Rangpur Gin and Tonic), they didn't have it. I then asked for a cucumber martini, which they also didn't have. For a bar that appeared well-stocked, the selection was surprisingly limited.
Another disappointing experience was that the food came to our table one at a time, in about 15-minute intervals. It was odd having one person eat, then waiting for another plate to come, and then another. We all couldn’t eat together, which was very frustrating.
For dinner, my youngest son wanted fries with cheese and bacon, but they couldn't make that, so he settled for kids’ quesadillas. I ordered the steak tips with sweet potato fries and steamed broccoli, which were poorly cooked and overly salty. Even after sending it back twice, it remained on the bill. Another thing to keep in mind is that when I ordered the steak tips, I had to pay separately for the steamed broccoli and the sweet potato fries. The steak tips were $29, the sweet potato fries were $8, and the broccoli was $7. For a restaurant of this caliber, especially one that just opened, you would expect a superb experience.
My wife enjoyed her salad, and my older son enjoyed his salmon bowl. However, the staff seemed more focused on their portable devices, creating a robotic ambiance. Lastly, I made it a point to get the manager’s name because the manager, Felicia, was very nonchalant and carefree about how things were being run in the restaurant. Unlike Precinct 10, they do not offer any live entertainment. Instead, they have TVs set all around, and the majority of the establishment is taken up by a huge bar. I would have to say that this restaurant is definitely not suitable for families. Would I recommend this location? Probably not. I feel that Weymouth has better places with better service. Despite this experience, I’m thankful for restaurants like Precinct 10 and Stockholders, which will certainly outshine Tavern...
Read moreToday was my first time visiting the Weymouth location. I used to go to the one in Brighton, but since that closed down, I’ve been visiting the Wrentham location. I recently realized there’s one in Weymouth, which is much closer to home.
I visited on Super Bowl Sunday. When I arrived, I sat at the bar for at least 10 minutes before anyone approached me. Eventually, Sunny came over and handed me a sticky menu that had been left behind by a previous customer. While I was looking at the menu, she came over with a wet wipe and started wiping down the counter—without a simple “excuse me” or acknowledgment. I let that slide, understanding that it was probably a hectic night.
I ordered a Manhattan and, instead of specifying my usual Maker’s, I asked her to make it the way they typically do. The first drink was okay. However, she never came back to check if I needed anything else. I eventually had to approach the male bartender to place my food order.
When I asked Sunny for another drink, she brought me a half-filled martini glass, and I could immediately tell it wasn’t the same as the first. After taking a sip, I told her that it tasted watered down and different from the previous one. She responded with, “Umm, no, it’s the same as before, and it’s not watered down.” I simply said, “Okay, I’m not arguing with you.” She then offered to make me another drink, I told her it was ok but she grabbed my glass, dumped it, and went to the other side of the bar to make another drink—which ended up being even worse than the second one.
To make matters worse, I noticed her going around gossiping to other employees about the situation. She was rude, unprofessional, rolled her eyes, and even swore in front of customers. The overall experience was disappointing, and the service was far from...
