I needed a new affordable sofa, and after reading other reviews about Hamilton Bryan, I felt confident that a locally-owned family business might be best. As a single woman, I needed someone to deliver to my second-story apartment. Many places with free delivery also charge a high minimum. I used Facebook Messenger on a Friday night AFTER closing to ask what delivery charges were. Donna answered me, straight up. No rigamarole. She told me the cost, which I appreciated. It was lower than I was finding, by 50%, and quite reasonable. I said I would likely come by Saturday. She told me the hours and said she would appreciate my asking for her. I did just that.
I went on Saturday, and Donna was with another customer, but I decided to wait for her. As I walked around the store, I was impressed that no one "stalked" me. I cannot over-emphasize how much this encourages me to buy. I found an incredibly well-priced sofa, and when Donna was available, the sale went smoothly, with no attempt to "upsell" me to anything else.
The next day for delivery to my location was the following Wednesday morning, and they even agreed to work with my schedule to deliver at the last part of the window, which I also appreciated because had they not, I would have had to have waited until Friday. True to their word, they showed up when they said. In fact, the two delivery men even helped me move my old sofa, which I had, unfortunately, gotten stuck in my hallway, into the office of my new home because I could not do it alone.
Also, unfortunately, they scuffed the new sofa when they moved it in and none of us saw it until right after they left. Immediately, I took a picture and sent it right to the same message address--I was ALSO about to go into a Zoom meeting AND I had my townhouse maintenance here for a water leak. Within moments the manager had called me. I called him back the moment I got free. He was apologetic and asked if I was home and he could send someone right out to my home. He added with incredible sincerity, "we don't set out to do this, I promise!" Someone came within the promise time (I even saw the time promised written in giant bold letters on the slip of paper). He checked the sofa and saw it had not been ripped or anything that genuinely damaged it. He was able to fix it up actually very easily. It was good as new--quite impressively, as a matter of fact.
The moral of this long review, of course, is that there is more to a purchase than price alone; it is customer service and integrity. In the middle of this move I have also purchased cheap furniture from Amazon for less important items, like bookshelves that would be covered with books. Some of those have arrived with scuffs. Those get "fixed" with $10 promo credits.
If you are investing in furniture, whether it's a sofa that costs a few hundred dollars because you are an educator on a budget, or you are buying an entire leather set because you have a better budget, buy it from people like Hamilton Bryan who have all the same name brands--my sofa is Ashley--buy have a name that is equal with integrity. That's what made the...
Read moreReally rude staff. They’re furniture is very nice and a fair price but make sure you look the part for this store or you’ll get treated like trash. My wife and I came in to buy a bedroom set a few days after we had our new baby so we just had on caps, t-shirts and jeans. The older sales lady that sits to the left of the main desk was incredibly rude but they had a set my wife wanted so we left and got the money in cash from the bank. While in the car my wife said she felt treated like trash but really wanted the set. When we returned she was helping someone else so after waiting over 10 minutes a man came up and even after telling him she was our sales lady he said it was fine. When she became available again she complained the entire transaction that she now had to put multiple names on it. It wasn’t until I suggested that I take my business somewhere else that she smiled and claimed it was no big deal. Then the delivery guy was so rude to my wife. He’s the one with his old high school photo on the door. She offered to move something out of his way and he launched into a whole speech about how he’s delivered more furniture than we’ve ever seen so he’ll tell us what he needs. I did meet the manager at one point and he was super nice. The only reason we stayed. Maybe $3k is not a huge sale to stuck up salesmen but it’s still a sale. We have told everyone about this experience and my wife’s grandmother who said she has bought from them for years will not be returning either. This was a little over a year ago and someone just suggested I write a review when they heard the story. It’s a pity because they have nice stuff and some of the staff were great but when you’re insulted while spending thousands it’s hard to...
Read moreI’ve shopped at Hamilton Bryan for furniture & appliances for years. The sales staff was friendly & helpful, without being pushy, which is what I prefer. In the past HB had a good supply of whatever I was looking for but thanks to the pandemic they only had four upright freezers which is four more than anyone else had & HB could deliver it in a few days, other places could not even order a freezer & we were told it could be 6 months or more before they might have any.
The delivery men were polite, careful of my furniture & put about half of the things they needed to move back where they were. They did not remove the tape from the freezer basket or the point of sale information. I live alone, am disabled & use a cane, due to back problems I have a strict weight lifting limit & had had eye surgery the week before so my vision is still blurry. (A fact I shared with one of the men)They had to remove the old freezer & tracked a dark liquid across the kitchen, living room carpet, & out my front door. They brought the new freezer in, one took the dolly out while the other plugged it in, told me it should be cold in 4 to 5 hours & left. That’s when I found the mess in the house, a neighbor told me about the mess out front later. I couldn’t tell how far down my driveway it went but they were parked in the street so it may go all the way down it. I didn’t expect them to clean up the mess but they should’ve told...
