I have been using Menards for use as a higher end alternative to Home Depot and Lowes.
I would characterize myself as an advanced DIYer.
I use (or used) Menards to order construction supplies at a reasonable price and ease of pick up.
This location, simply put, is just poorly operated. Specifically their Lumber yard and materials desk.
I have experienced: damaged special order products with the only resolution of reordering the product (reenter the process) or take the damaged materials with a negligible discount, but no resolution for wasted time if you wanted an undamaged product. (I asked for them to just replace the product and deliver it to my home as this was a 3 hour event and another 3 hours would be required to take delivery in store, plus an additional week or more delay to my project. Additionally, they did not refund my special order handling charges... We failed to do your part but you owe us money...
irresponsible and arguably dangerous fork drivers who are willing to damage your product, vehicle, or trailer
-rejecting delivery and still being stopped (for a pointless and unfruitful) vehicle inspection after being notified, via radio (subsequently spending my time after a grievance about wasting my time!)
-while on gate attendants: who thinks it's ok to lean on a customer's vehicle with their tablet or their hands?
indifferent management when asked to address these issues
What my plan is: time is valuable so I will pay a little more for advanced-use special order materials by going through Builder's First Source. (They have infinitely better customer relations and had the damaged items in stock and delivered it (1 hour away) same day use the West location which appears to have their stuff a little more together but will avoid special order products since Menards has lowered it's standard to not being a high end big box store and I no longer appreciate them as a convenience, I will leverage their pricing to shop at the other big box stores leverage local lumber yards and avoid the hour drive while keeping my money local
We as customers do not need to accept this lack of respect from retailers. Capitalism empowers us to seek alternatives and promote...
Read moreWould not recommend Menards for plumbing items . I purchased some PVC pipe from them and found out later that they were 38% higher priced than both Home Depot and Lowe’s . I called the Menards front desk and asked what was up with their high price and was told they would price match if I provide the documentation that it is the same product . I then called the Menards plumbing department and spoke to the representative later that day and he stated that he had received multiple calls about their high pricing and that they could only price match to a certain point ( even though I obtained the requested documentation showing the competitors pricing ) but still would be substantially higher than the other box stores . I then asked if I could be transferred to the general manager and he hung up on me . I then called the store back and was able to connect with General manager Andrew who of course blamed the extremely high prices on Covid . When I informed him both Home Depot and Lowe’s were 38% lower he stated “ right now they don’t price match anything and if I didn’t like their prices I could return the product “ . Long story short , non of their employees know the “ current policy “ and the customer service is non existent when it comes to their general management team “ Andrew “ . I returned the product shortly after our conversation and he actually had to do the approval where I was greeting once again with his short attitude and rude demeanor ( he didn’t say a word only gave me dirty looks then walked away , LOL ) . I then went to Home Depot down the street and purchased the exact same product and saved hundreds of dollars . The return itself was an inconvenience, but the fact of non giving my business to a dishonest company made it...
Read moreIf I could put negative stars I would. I bought all my cabinets and countertops from menards on January 4th and was told they would be here by January 18th. I got an email a few days before my order arrived and it said that my order had arrived, I thought “awesome it’s ahead of time”. I got a trailer together to head over and called on my way and spoke with Tyler, he said it was a big order they would start putting it together. I live about 30 minutes away, and as I was pulling into the menards store Tyler called me and said the order wasn’t all there just the countertops. I work in customer service and so I realize things happen, but I was also borrowing a trailer and knew it would be a pain to do again. I asked for free delivery and Tyler said “absolutely not because he’s the manager of that area and he wouldn’t be writing up that ticket”. After speaking with Rick the general manager who is over Tyler, I quickly realized the incompetence and carelessness I was dealing with and that they did not care whatsoever to fix the issue they caused. I told them both about the email and they said it must of been an issue with the automated system. It is now January 21st and I called and spoke with Tyler again who said he doesn’t even know if it’s shipped yet. Tyler doesn’t even act like he wants to have my business and clearly has very little motivation. Save yourself time and money and go buy whatever your looking for elsewhere. Still in disbelief at how poorly I’ve...
