Extra Space Storage — Local services in Willoughby

Very very pleasant experience. Mr. Reynolds explained how the lock to my unit worked and how the gate code operated. The gate code is much easier to use than the last place I rented a locker. Very clean and well maintained facility. I could see that someone swept out my locker before renting it to me. There is a hidden charge, they make you pay a $25 admin fee when you first rent which I’m sure is mainly profit. They also want to charge you $16 for the lock, but they waived that. I’m going to start looking for an alternate facility because they reserve the right to raise the monthly fee at any time. If my rate goes up in less than 6 months I’ll move. Also, I’m very skeptical about a contract that I wasn’t able to see before signing up. They email it only after you enter into the agreement, which is of questionable legal validity. I’ll check it out ASAP. Also they make you set up a reoccurring payment via credit card. I prefer to pay be check. I will probably revoke authority for a reoccurring payment and they’ll have to take a check or I’ll move. For the time being however I’m very pleased with this facility and I...

The reason I had to give this 3 stars is because the unit we were renting was a 10x10 at the facility in Lakeland Blvd. We noticed that little pieces of the ceiling were falling down. Two weeks ago, we opened the door to our unit and almost the entire ceiling had fallen and is all over our stuff. For the amount that we’re paying per month, we would expect that that wouldn’t happen. When I went in to give our notice that we were vacating… Lance let me know that he had to have his maintenance crew go into a couple units at the Lakeland location to clean up from the ceilings collapsing. At the end of the day, we did end up vacating the unit. Lance tried everything in his power to rectify the situation. He was extremely helpful and you can tell that he cares about...

When I first rented my storage unit on February 19 of 2022, I gave this place 5 stars. My rent was $115.83 with tax, which although quite high, was a competitive rate for the Lake County area. After only 2 months, they raised my rent 57%, so it's now $181.26 with tax. The only reason I'm even giving 2 stars now is because Lance, the manager at the Willoughby location, was able to help me reduce my rent increase by $25 for the time being. It isn't nearly enough, but it's better than going from paying $115.83 to $181.26😒I don't understand why this big corporation is so greedy. They use the pandemic as an excuse, but I was affected by it as well. I'm a single working woman, and I don't make a lot of money. Unfortunately, until I find a home, I have to use a storage unit.
