Sea Schoodic Kayak & Bike — Local services in Winter Harbor

I am writing this review to warn potential customers about my incredibly negative experience with Sky Di Ruggiero's bike shop.

The owner, Sky, is not only unhelpful but also extremely rude and discriminatory. Here's why you should avoid this business:

Unclear and Changing Terms: The rental terms are not clearly communicated upfront and can be changed at the last minute.

Discriminatory Behavior: Sky is not inclusive of people with disabilities and made offensive remarks about my physical limitations.

Poor Customer Service: Sky's behavior was aggressive and disrespectful throughout the rental process.

Unauthorized Charges: She charged my credit card for an extra day without authorization, despite the email confirmation stating the correct rental period.

Safety Concerns: Sky failed to conduct any safety checks or provide necessary equipment, leading to a dangerous situation on the road.

Sky (the owner) is friendly and helpful and more than accommodating. The kayaking at Jones Pond is easy and fun for all. This is my family’s second year kayaking with Sea Schoodic, and we love it so much, it’s a guarantee that it will be an annual activity. Highly recommended!!!

EDIT, July 2022 Just wanted to chime in again and double down on my original review! Another year (this makes 3 now) kayaking at Jones Pond with Sea Schoodic providing the kayaks - and it is just as seamless a process as ever. My continued thanks to Sky for providing such great service and equipment. My family enjoys every minute of our time spent out paddling. Once again: a highly recommended experience!

Edit, August 2024 Once again, a lovely experience. Sky is always accommodating and friendly, and she makes the rental process as smooth as can be, even in the busy moment when we got to the shop! The tandem my wife and I rented was in great shape, as well as the paddles and the life vests, so our time on the Pond was nothing but enjoyable. Hope to do it...

The guy was nice but had no interest in helping us have a good experience. My husband, myself and my son are all over 6 foot tall. Out of the three kayaks that were left, only 2 were big enough for us. My husband flipped out of the kayak 10 min in. Then spent the next 3 hours watching my son and I while he was soaking wet :( Not a very good experience at all. Maybe have a better knowledge on what's available would help. Had we have been informed that there were only 2 that would fit us, we would have not went and wasted that money. Also, when we got back and told the man about it, he said, "Yeah, sorry". BUT my son and I loved kayaking around the pond. I just wish we ALL could have...
