Stopped in here while traveling to get a snack and drinks. Super unfriendly staff. Walked to the back to get cold soda out of the cooler that's across from the meat counter. Was checking out the food in the glass counter, there's a guy stocking...no hello, didn't ask if I needed anything. Another lady in the same back aisle stocking stuff. As I'm opening the cooler door to get a soda, she pretty much sideswiped me to get past to put stuff away on the other side of the cooler. Again, no hello..do you need anything. She looked at me, looked at my shirt logo...which was a Green Bay packers logo..shook her head and walked away. I went to go down an aisle and there were 2 more ladies, chatting away, stocking the shelves and blocking the aisle. Again, no hello..are you looking for anything? I actually had to go back out of the aisle because they blocked the aisle and acted like it would bother them to move and let me past to look at stuff. I've heard that people in Maine don't like "out of staters" If you want to experience the Maine cold shoulder, wear something on your shirt that makes it obvious that you're not from there and...
Read moreThis place is under new owners and managers and has been turned around. A great one stop shop for most essentials, and then some AND they now carry what is perhaps the best bread in the area (in my opinion, by a LONG SHOT!) made by The SCHOODIC BAKING COMPANY. It’s worth every penny, so so unbelievably good it will make you wanna slap yo mama and get up and dance. Like Tartine level Parisian bakery level next excellent croissants.
Lest this become a review solely about bread, I will forever call the IGA the IGA and I hope they keep the old vintage “winter harbor food service” signage for the retro IGA, (is it even still there? Shows how aware of my surroundings I am… not!) although it is now technically called Winter Harbor Provisions, that’s a bit too rich for my blood but I totally get why they’d want to change the name and affiliation.
Bonus pic of the old, old IGA before my time in town but still cool nonetheless. Onwards and upwards to its new chapter serving the community. Nice to see good folks come give it a...
Read moreThe women here sold my cousin a dozen lobsters. So the 3 boys (ages 8-15) and I were playing a game* to occupy ourselves while driving back home (hers)...
*spotting something along the way going through the alphabet. We were on "Q" when we got to the store. Well our competition was close (and fun!), but Q is a tough letter. As we entered the store, we looked for something beginning with Q... The little boy made mention to one of the ladies... and lo and behold! she came up with a quarter, (and q- tip)... we were all searching for a quarter. She found it, the youngest claimed it AND she let him keep the quarter!! And yes, the rest of us were sore losers, but we continued the game... they were super and made the game more fun by "playing" with us... who does that these days? I mean, could anyone go into a store and get that kind of friendly, over the top service??? Love you gals!! And thanks! The lobsters were...
