Update August 2025: Once again, Dr. Formanek and his staff carefully cared for my 18 year old Amish neighbor. As I sat, listening to the hard words, it was easy to see how relaxed our neighbor was as he listened to the difficult choices before him. Dr. Formanek has a way which allows his patients to trust his knowledge while accepting the options he explains. Winterset is fortunate to have such a kind surgeon on staff. His staff is also easy to work with. They each smile as they calmly provide difficult care. They are well trained and share their love of their job with their patients. Spring 2021: After my husband broke his wrist he choose Dr. Formanek to make the repairs at the Winterset Madison County Hospital. The staff could not have been more professional as well as caring!! My daughter was in Urgent care a few weeks ago, because of her illness and the results of her lab work, they sent her over to the ER to be better assessed. The nurse and dr who treated her did so with so much compassion and understanding. They answered our questions with respect and patience. I am from Des Moines but was referred here for a minor outpatient surgery. This place is great. Everyone was so friendly. Park 50 feet from the door. I arrived at my schedule time and they had me right in, got my surgery done and I was out the door in 45 minutes. Couldn't believe it. They even sent me a thank you note.
