Every time I go in here, Im amazed at all the amazing things Shirley has for her customers. This time I stepped in the door and there they were--2 beautiful sets of candles, one green, one gold, shaped like many petaled chrysanthemums. Just gorgeous. And reasonably priced. She has a dibs and dabs of everything. Some lovely silver jewelry, scarves, scented creams, antique dishes, a candy counter where I buy chocolate cashew grizzlies for my husband every time I make the 250 mile drive to see my sister. She always has interesting clothing in most sizes. There are tee shirts for local sights. She carries several lines of figurines. And if seasonal is your wish, you can find that as well. Shirley and Mildred, the resident gold fish in the antique punch bowl, always know when shoppers are reading the cards for sale by the chuckles. I never miss a chance to visit the Mercantile in Winterset each time I come east...

This store is beautiful. There's so much to look at and guaranteed something for everyone. If you need a unique gift, you'll find it here. That being said, the owners are not the friendliest of people and prices are a little high but that's to be expected with any mom and pop shop.
