This is MY experience and may differ from yours. I am someone who relies heavily on Google reviews so I wanted to share.
No prior truck driving experience - I'm a Banker by trade Hours purchased - 25 hours - Class A Started a trucking company and will be an owner/operator Avg cost - $125 per hour of yard training
School was about 40 minutes from my house so I decided to study for the knowledge exams on my own. Once I passed my knowledge exam I went to the school and purchased my yard hours so I could take my CDL test at the DMV. I was told they only offered to test in a manual truck.
My less than pleasant experience started once I was ready to start practicing in the truck. I come from the school of thought as a college graduate that "school" comes with a curriculum and they will walk me through what needs to be done each day to pass my CDL. I show up to the yard on day 1 and my trainer was visibly intoxicated from the night before and it was obvious he did not get enough sleep.
I shared my experience with the office and I never had that trainer again. My 2nd trainer spent the majority of time complaining that he didn't want to do the outside inspection because it was too cold and the fact that he didn't want to get the covid booster shot.
Once I had Miguel things began to get better. I switched between him and Juan and you could tell this is the upper echelon of trainers they have at EZ Wheels.
I spent my first 8 of 10 sessions doing, straight back, offset right and left and parking. On my 9th day I was told that I need to learn the alley dock and actually drive the truck. On my 10th and last day of training they took me on the road where I needed to learn shifting. Anybody that drives a manual truck knows you don't get it after 2 hours of training.
DMV - ROAD TEST DAY
Get there at 7am and EZ Wheels shows up with a truck with an expired inspection sticker. The DMV personnel threatens that we will not be allowed to take the test based on the truck not being in compliance. This is both unacceptable and unprofessional by EZ Wheels. Your only job was to show up with a truck we can use.
Skipping ahead. I was very nervous because I knew I had only driven for 2 hours and barely practiced the alley dock.
I passed the air brake, pre-trip inspection, straight back, offset AND alley dock. Remaining calm and having confidence was key. I had major trouble shifting on the road test and barely made it out of the testing center. I take responsibility but I wish they would have pushed me to drive more so I could have had more practice. I was told I should have "told them" what I wanted to do at the yard. Umm, okay, I guess students are supposed to tell the instructors what needs to be taught in the EZ Wheels world.
I recommend to new driver's to do their due diligence in what school they picked. Most schools offer a choice between manual and automatic and it wasn't until after I asked about the automatic that I was told they DO offer that option. I was told NO when I asked initially.
I purchased 2 hours and road test from a different school and passed my CDL in an automatic truck. I only had to take the road test. When I inquired at EZ Wheels about using an automatic truck for the next road test they told me I would have to take all test parts over again. That was a lie. Why I was lied to by EZ Wheels I don't know. Being honest and professional are the keys to running a successful business and gaining repeat clients and referrals.
I would not feel comfortable referring students to EZ Wheels based on my experience. Again, each person has to evaluate things on their own. Best of luck to those out there pursuing a career in trucking and hopefully this review helps guide your decision in who you decide to entrust your...
Read moreI recently decided to obtain my CDL A license and while I had previously attempted training with another school but was terribly disappointed with their staff, I decided to reach out to E-Z Wheels and was immediately impressed with their office staff and their professionalism. They were polite and very knowledgeable of what I needed for obtaining my NY CDL A license. I viewed all the videos they offered in my 15 hour package and was able to collect key notes from those videos. Junior is a superstar! Additionally, I was able to schedule 6 consecutive days of training from 2 to 3 hours a day and schedule my road test on the 7th day with the DMV with E-Z Wheels tractor trailer. This is something most schools do not offer which I know from experience. While training at the yard and on the road, I had 4 different instructors, all who were patient and well experienced with great tips. However one instructor, Chris, had a style that positively impacted my learning experience the most. He was attentive and consistently called out what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. His tips are worth gold!! I am someone who never stepped foot into a tractor and to now all of sudden perform double clutching on the road and drive in traffic within Elizabeth without failure. Chris talked the fear out of me and is the reason why I PASSED my CDL A road test on the 7th day. I am forever grateful the knowledge Chris shared, his patience, and professionalism. While everyone learns faster or longer then others, I can ensure if you are 100% committed to obtaining your CDL, E-Z Wheels will provide everything you need to pass your road test. It was 7 days of a great...
Read moreWow, what a journey this has been
I Enrolled at this driving school the first week of January and as of yesterday I am now a licensed âClass A cdlâ holder. After going back and forth for a period of six months prior to my enrollment, I found that this school was the best choice and I am glad that I have come this far to now see I made a great decision. The way their program is structured is so that you can be successful, but they are not going to hold your hand and walk you through the process, YOU MUST put your own work in. They have one on one training available and the course is 160 hours. Ez Wheels has several different packages to accommodate whatever your financial status may be. For my folks who donât like to watch videos and stay for more than 2 hours ; Iâm letting you know right now that although some of the material may appear lengthy , it is definitely 100% beneficial and relevant to the situations youâll face in driving and can be applied during your yard instruction when it comes to maneuvering those big trucks⌠the ladies in the office are very accommodating and available to help. It is on you to meet them halfway by showing up, doing your part and ultimately getting the training YOU PAID FOR !!!.. I was fortunate enough to train at the Lakewood yard being that my home office was in hopelawn⌠all of the instructors are very efficient at what they do and the training received is thorough.
Thank you EZ wheels for living up to the reputation in your reviews and putting quality over cash . It has been a pleasure and privilege to have worked...
