El Diamante Event Center — Local services in Yakima

Event: Metal Concert with I Declare War, Cold Hearts, Malinois, and As It Lies.

The Good:

Drinks at the bar tasted great and were a little cheaper than other venues.

The sound system was better than most venues of this size and the customer service at the bar was proactive.

Venue has been renovated since previous owners and the changes drastically improved the atmosphere

The Bad: Lighting for main event area was cool but wildly out of place for the type of event that was hosted.

Stage setup was barebones and drab. There was no crowd barriers and the stage backdrop was a plain white brick wall. There were no screens or interesting wall dressings to add personality.

The venue organization was poorly thought out. The 21+ area occupied 90% of the public floor area even though this is categorized as an all ages venue. There was also an inconvenient large metal fence/barrier separating the all ages on the far left of the stage from the 21+ which was the 90% rest of the stage to the right. This made the crowd feel very small despite an alright turn out for the event.

Suggested fixes: Move the bar and bar tables to the back of the venue and section that off instead of dividing the floor area in front of the stage in two.

Add in some event appropriate wall decor to the back of the stage or add a screen/projector combo to fill the blank space.

Research ahead of event and preload DMX controller with event appropriate lighting presets in case bands don't come with their own...
