While these curbcutouts are NEW they fail. They are NOT smooth transitions. I can't imagine how much these cost to make wrong. Now they need to be redone correctly. Located near the BMO bank and the gas station. They present tripping hazards to walkers and joggers. And, can destroy a #wheelchair front casters. In my case my wheelchair costs over $6,000 if any work done by our town damaged my chair I will be happy to send you the repair bill.
I would be happy to challange my town's planning and design department to a stroll around town in wheelchairs with me. I doubt they will. Because not that they are busy. They will use that EXCUSE.
But, really they could care less about the People with disabilities community in my opinion only.
I offered to volunteer as the town's ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTANT to help businesses and government save money and avoid access violations.
The last minute effort just before 2020 goes a long way to show how little they think of the disabled.
If I am wrong then accept my challange of the town stroll.
Your airial photography, studies and person whom I was told is disabled working for the town are missing many things.
One little stroll around town will open all eyes that need to be equally aware of access issues
So you are not duplicating work. Like the corssaalks at the intersection near the Bamk, Walgreems and the gas station. Not only duplicated but more at times. How is this helping our town?
2020 the ADA goes from passive to active. And, fines can be $115,000 to $300,000 each. None of that money fixes the violations. And, I don't know where it goes or what it is used for.
In 1994 it was announced that by 2020 these access issues or barriers would be gone... So towns and cities and businesses have known for decades this was going to happen. Notice when any effort has been made to correct these violations.
Within the last 3 and 2 years. Instead of little by little over the decades since it was announced.
Yeah, budgets and money needs to be secured to make it happen. But, when you waste money building things wrong, then redoing them over again... How is that in the budget?
I would like to offer simple no cost to low cost solutions to permanently remove barriers. And, save our town and businesses as much money as possible removing these annoying barriers.
If you feel installing things that are supposed to remove barriers for people incorrectly is the best then by all means ignore my post here. Keep on showing by your actions what you think of your public and...
Read moreThere is a Kroger now where there used to be a Marsh. It is a decently stocked grocery with a pharmacy. A good sized produce and bakery section at the front with a good selection of items. There is also a Redbox, so that is convenient. I do wish this was in the former Marsh 86th Street location as it was an "often driving by" location, but I understand that this location is in the middle of a more populated area. I hope they do well and...
