First and last time trying this place. A friend and I decided to have a non-traditional Christmas dinner. More than 20 people are here waiting for their food or standing in line to order. They do not serve at the table but I had a friend coming to town so we are going to eat ours here which is allowed. They are not ready for this crowd and there seems to be no method to the madness. They didn't even take my name and there is no name on my credit card receipt but they keep reading names who are here to pick up doordash. So who knows when we will get our food but again....we won't come back. We looked at many options. Now we know. Definitely not worth the price, I don't care how the food tastes.
UPDATE: We got our food at the one hour mark. The young man ended up giving me a family size portion of the egg drop soup so I guess I should have specified. That's part of the reason I paid $30 for my meal alone. The rice was in a small container but ample enough which was the decent size container. As I had read in another review, the fried rice was about as bland as I've ever had, so I wasn't too worried there wasn't lots of it. The garlic shrimp was good. However, overall, the experience was still not worth it. The plus was that a friend drove down an hour and a half to meet me so we definitely had some talk time. He was the one that chose the place when I gave him two options. And he agreed. We chose the wrong option. Hopefully they will prepare better for the future, especially for nights like this but we won't have to worry about it. We've tried it, I can mark it off my list and we won't be going back. We were surrounded by people waiting for as long as we did. I think everyone was either to go or doordash except one family. Maybe others found that it...
Read moreI first tried Rice Cooker 13 years ago when I first moved to the area and was very dissatisfied with my meal then. We were served old, dry rice on top of that. The place is literally called Rice Cooker and they can't serve fresh rice?! I
I hadn't been back until last week, just because the birthday girl in our group REALLY wanted Chinese food and it was the only one in the area open that day. The food was pretty disappointing, honestly. Of the four people in my party, only one truly enjoyed their entree. One of our dishes was the wrong dish completely but the person it went to didn't want to bother the server to take back because they're one of those people who don't want food thrown out but also so they could try this other dish they'd bever had before. It was a meh (bland), over-soupy lo mein that wasn't worth taking leftovers home.
I had a dish described to me as a sort of curry and being a fan of all types of Asian curries, I chose it. What I received was a huge bowl of what looked and jiggled like orange-ie mayonnaise. It tasted like American white gravy, like what you'd put on biscuits but slightly sweet and peppery. I could only pick out the veggies and try to push them down with rice (fresh this time) and soy sauce. Gotta say this is my last time going to this restaurant. I overheard the diners a few tables over say they didn't enjoy their food enough to come back either, so I don't believe it's me being picky. I want to give every place a fair chance and I think I've...
Read moreI came to Zionsville specifically to have lunch at the Rice Cooker. The restaurant is located on a very nice strip mall with plenty of parking. The dining room has enough seating to accommodate at least 50 guests. Service was immediate and friendly. Rice Cooker has a very extensive menu which usually throws a red flag for me just too many items to do it all well. In this case that rule was correct. My wife ordered the szechuan chicken and I had the Pho noodle soup. The soup came with the proper bean sprouts, Thai basil and a lemon wedge. I usually get like with my soup but the lemon was ok with me. The soup was not a rich broth at all. Completely tastless save the excruciating amount of Chinese 5 spice it contained. I think they are supposed to use star anise and ginger. My wife's szechuan was even more disappointing. It was a sweet concoction that contained no detectable heat or szechuan pepper at all. The crab Rangoon was $5 for two so you would expect a decent Rangoon. It was so sweet it qualified as dessert ridiculously sweet not savory at all. I do not recommend this restaurant but gave it a 3 for the clean restaurant and...
