Came here on recommendation from a food blog and experienced the worst dining since being in Argentina. We ordered 2 shawarma combos (shawarma & fries), one with chicken and the other mixed. 10 mins later we are told there is no chicken. Ok, we'll have the carne or whatever is on the spit. They bring our fries & we nibble on those as we continue to wait for our shawarmas. The couple who arrived AFTER us got their shawarmas around the time we got our fries. The server observes us glancing over at the stagnant meat spit, at the dude in charge of carving it who was busy watching the fight on TV (arms folded with both working hands in his pits), and at her. She comes over and mumbles something about the group of kids nearby leaving then we'll get our food. Maybe I misheard, maybe I misunderstood but I wasn't concerned about other guests. 40 mins after we order, we finally get our shawarmas. We sat next to the spit so we saw everything involved in putting it together: carve the meat, toss it around on the base, and assemble with the veggies, sauce, & bread. That should take 10 mins top with cooking time. When asked why we had to wait so long for our food, we were told the meat was still raw. When asked why the couple who came after us got served first, we were told they had a reservation. I'm not an idiot but I was treated like one. The behavior of the staff completely ruined our one experience here. The guy at the register attempted to assuage our experience by giving us a piece of their dry baklava on our way out. He saw we were clearly upset bc we asked for our food to be packed to go. The shawarma quality was well below those of late night shawarmas we've had in other parts of the world. Sure, I've had other sub par dining experiences but in this case, I feel compelled to leave a review. The treatment we experienced felt very intentional and there was no significant effort to make it better while we were there. Save yourselves the frustration and disappointment:...
Read moreAl Árabe is one of those places that looks humble, until the food arrives and you realize the star doesn’t need to shine to steal the show. The vibe is a quirky blend of Arab speed and Buenos Aires warmth… like sipping mate with Aladdin while flying on a magic carpet. I ordered a sampler to try a bit of everything, and it turned into a minimalist feast that had me thinking, “A little bit? There’s nothing little about this!” The presentation is so pretty it almost feels wrong to mess it up… but not wrong enough to stop me. Prices are so affordable you’ll start questioning if you’re still in Palermo. They accept contactless payments, which is perfect if you want to pay without breaking the magic of the moment. Highly recommended—haven’t found another place quite like it in...
