My wife and father-in-law are in Buenos Aires for the week (Nov. ‘24). We travel a lot and enjoy good food, wine, and experiences. We were excited about BIS but left the restaurant underwhelmed, food was over priced compared to other restaurants in the city, and had a dispute with the manager.
Our three entrees were a wood-fired fish-of-the-day with garlic foam, squid ink risotto, and cochinillo. My fish was cooked wonderfully but the foam flavors didn’t compliment. Instead, the foam masked the fish but wasn’t enough to be present and tasteful. It resulted in a muddled dish.
The biggest issue was with the squid ink risotto. The menu said its ingredients were black rice, squid, and lemon. The dish came out with a lime jelly, and garlic aioli. My wife is allergic to eggs and sent it back. She apologized to the server but didn’t even think it would be an addition to the dish and thus no reason to inform the kitchen of her allergy.
The manager came out to speak with us. While his tone was professional, he blamed my wife for not sharing her allergy before ordering. It seemed inappropriate to blame my wife when it’s an uncommon addition to risotto AND not on the menu.
Later, our table next to us (who were frequent customers) asked to speak with the manager because their meal was not typical; fewer shrimp and lacking flavor. Another table had issues with their drinks and bill.
My family travelled from out of town but if we return to Buenos Aires, we won’t return to BIS. There are too many spectacular restaurants in the city. BIS may have had an off night (it was a Tuesday) but the food was average at best and overpriced for...
Read moreTucked away on a charming, tree-lined street, this restaurant immediately captivates with its intimate and inviting atmosphere. The warm lighting, tasteful decor, and gentle hum of conversation create a setting that is both elegant and wonderfully unpretentious, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
The true star of the show, however, is the food. The menu at Bis Bistró is a testament to the kitchen's mastery of classic Argentine and international flavors, elevated with modern, creative twists. For an unforgettable start, the provoleta with roasted tomatoes and basil is a must-try—a perfectly melted cheese delight with a surprising sweetness from the tomatoes that dances on your palate.
The main courses are where the restaurant truly shines. The slow-cooked osso buco, served with a rich, velvety sauce and creamy polenta, is a dish of pure comfort and sophistication. The meat is so tender it falls off the bone with a fork, and the depth of flavor is simply remarkable. Another standout is the grilled salmon, prepared with a delicate crust and served with fresh seasonal vegetables that highlight its natural richness without overpowering it.
Beyond the exquisite food, the service at Bis Bistró is impeccable. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their craft. They offer thoughtful recommendations and ensure every need is met, all with a friendly and professional grace that enhances the entire...
Read moreSadly disappointing. I've been going to Bis since it opened on Humberto Primo. I've been traveling for a few years and didn't know they had moved. I was walking home last night and ran across it and was so excited to see it that I offered to buy my friend dinner if he wanted to join me. We got the Carpaccio of Squid to start and it was out of this world. Subtle, complex, layered flavor, everything I would have expected. For mains I had the Ojo de Bife and my friend had the confit duck. Horribly disappointing. My beef was over cooked, unders and the potatoes that were served with it were fried to rock hard. The meat tasted like something I would get at a tenedor libre. My friends duck literally had no taste. It tasted as.if it had been boiled not confit. I tasted it and it tasted watery. The host asked what we thought and I told him. He apologized and said he could see we weren't thrilled so he offered a desert. We had coffee (which I'm pretty sure was Nespresso) and some dulce de leche postre. Again it had no flavor, no shine, not interesting nor delicious, just plain. We paid and left and like others have said I was going to book the main event across the alley but will not. I'm wondering if Arumburu sold his interest because I know what he is capable of and none of that was...
