BEST BUDGET MEAL in PALERMO CHICO

We've been in Buenos Aires for two months.

We enjoy Club Social Gral Alvear more and more each time we eat there.

We went to Club Social Gral Alvear again today after yesterday's anger-inducing credit card gouge at Maria Lujan in Tigre.

In my review of Maria Lujan I mention two "clubs" where food is incredibly cheap for outstanding meals.

What's a "club"?

A "club" is just that: A place where kids and adults share a common interest.

Sometimes a club will have a restaurant in its building.

At Club Social Gral Alvear the interest is in dance.

There's a studio here where boys and girls learn dance, practice, and perform.

Our lunch at Club Social Gral Alvear: A meal size chicken salad - a meal size bowl of thick spaghetti in a cream sauce - a big Milanesa Alvear - this time with a substitute arugula salad instead of fries, a big old fashioned seltzer bottle of sparling water.

The price?

$6 USD each

The menu isn't large - but the delicious "ensalada completa" is. The salad is a meal on its own and comes covered in chicken or tuna.

The fresh (never dried) pasta noodles smothered in a cream sauce are slurpy! Go for the fresh made ravioli if you don't want to wear sauce - ravioli is called "sorrentinos" in Buenos Aires.

The "Milanesa Alvear" is big - tender -covered by a thick slab of ham - cheese - and french fries.

It's never overly breaded - corporate chains over bread to save on the cost of beef or chicken.

Speaking of beef and chicken, something to know about milanesa here in Buenos Aires is that a beef milanesa is simply called a "milanesa" but a chicken milanesa is called a "suprema".

(TIP The corporate chain restaurant called "Club Milanesa" (milanesa thin and dry as sand) and Freddo Ice Cream (instead map a locally owned ice cream parlor near where you're staying) get a lot of good reviews from the echo chamber known as "digital nomads" - nomads generally don't plant themselves for months at a time in a place

Hola a todos nuevamente. Me encontré con unos amigos a comer en un lugar que ya había ido varias veces y que si bien cambio de concesión el tipo de negocio y el tipo de comida ha cambiado. El Club social General Alvear es un lugar conocido para pocos, un bodegón donde si quieres cambiar algo del plato no tienen ningún problema en hacerlo y siempre con buena predisposición. Anoche pedimos unas empanadas de carne al horno muy buena , aunque no pedimos el revuelto gramajo se veia bastante bien, luego pedimos una tortilla de papa sin cebolla que vino bien babee unas milanesas Alvear y un Alvear 2.0, recomiéndo la Alvear por sus Ingredientes; y en cuanto a la 2.0 si bien tiene queso cheedar y jamón el éste no estaba delicadamente presentado sabemos que cuando un jamón se cocina se sala más de lo normal entonces el Plato se torna salado. Comida caserita a buen precio. Clientela de gente grande que se conoce y se ve que vienen seguido. El servicio estuvo bien. -Las empanadas fritas me parecieron espectaculares. Perfectas y sabrosas. -La pechuga a la plancha sobrecocida. -los sorrentinos tienen un estilo diferente. Parecen 4 empanadas hechas con pasta. El tamaño de la porcion bien, lo que no me gustó fue la crema. Totalmente liquida como leche. Te dan una taza grande de queso rayado aparte, quizas es para echarsela toda a la crema líquida. -fuimos de los primeros clientes en llegar y el local tenía mal olor (para mí olía a pis de gato). Los baños feos también. -los precios son excelentes. Comimos 3 por $8100 en octubre 2023. Quedan pocas opciones en ese rango de precio. No...
