Great food, poor experience.
The food was very good. Most of the dishes were perfectly prepared, except for the 2 desserts in their seven-course tasting menu which were very disappointing. I will elaborate further down.
The service was inappropriate. The servers run on autopilot through the tasting menu and every request outside their routine has a very long wait. In addition, they left empty glasses from finished drinks on the table, and picked up dishes before we were done with them. One server topped up my sparkling water glass with still water and walked away before I had a chance to correct their mistake. We had to ask for the check 3 times.
We sat outside (only sitting available) where they were smoking the food. The smoke was so intense that it made our clothes smell like camp fire. One person in our party had to stand up and go breath across the street multiple times.
The building is beautiful with impeccable interior design. Lots of oak on the walls, shelves, and floors. Except for the bathrooms were very small, awkward, and dated. The stairs are very steep with no handicap access so watch out if you come with an elder. The dishes are beautiful with hand-painted porcelain plates.
The food was served in a seven-course tasting menu. Each dish is meant to be shared between 2 people. While the food was delicious, the portions were very small and hard to share. I will describe each dish if you´re interested. Keep in mind, they are meant to be share.
Dish 1: 1/4 red cabbage, burned on the grill, with almond puree. Excellent! Dish 2: Grilled halloumi with sliced peaches: - Excellent! Dish 3: Heirloom tomato salad: - Perfect! Dish 3: 1 Empanada. - Delicious, but inappropriate to be shared. An empanada should never be cut with a knife. Inappropriate. Dish 4: Sweetbread (Mollejas) - One of the best I´ve tasted! Dish 5: Cherries with cream - Poorly done. Excess liquid. No design to the dish. Dish 6: The weirdest one. A scoop of a Nutella-like spread with ground white chocolate on top. - Poorly done. Seemed like a toping more than a dish. Wine: The menu includes a glass of wine and one of clericó (white sangría). They both met expectations.
All 6 dishes amounted to about 250-300 grams (10 oz) of food at best. We went for pizza after =)
My advise to the restaurant would be to add a person or two to their service crew, increase the portion size, and reposition the smokers to the end of the line of tables depending on the direction of the wind. They already have an excellent chef, great food providers, and a beautiful building in a great neighborhood. They have the hard stuff to get, it would be easy to get...
