CORDILLERA Vinos y Fuegos — Restaurant in Mendoza

Reading the reviews we thought this was the perfect dining venue. We were disappointed as the menu showed fillet steak but when we arrived they had no fillet( well the chef found 1 from the previous day ) we had ribeye steaks which were tasty but not what we had planned on having.. they suggest visiting the wine cellar to choose a Malbec or blend wine to accompany the meal. . The waiter went to get lengths describing a certain wine upon asking the price USD85 ( at the black market rate of 350) or USD190 on the official rate.. a total con and very disappointing for a tourist. When the bill arrived like all restaurants in Mendoza the 10% service was included.. but the waiter told us that was not for the staff.. at every restaurant we always ask if the service is included and they show on the bill the 10% ...the menu was very limited .. the Chef did come out and explain his foods but we felt maybe he survives more on his...

We were today. My boyfriend uses to like visiting places according to the reviews of this site. Most of the times the reviews are if not exactly right, pretty good. But I have to say...wth with the review of Cordillera? 4.8 stars? The only perfect thing in this restaurant was Elias, our waiter. I ordered "Cazuela de Mariscos" a special of the day. I have to say it was a dish full of pepper and onions an one shrimp. Was beyond disappointed. Not a cazuela at all. My boyfriend ordered a Crab ravioli with wine and truffle sauce...(???). It sounded super good but was just close to ok. We can't say anything about wine, because we didn't drink any. Or ate any dessert. But, for the price here we eat at other places much better. We visit in late maj and it was a little cold sitting in the restaurant. We got an excellent service by the waiter, that took us to their wine storage to select the wine we wanted - great idea. We got the lamb rack with risotto. The lamb was raw in the core but the chef corrected it and it was really good. Very tastful and the risotto was good. After we got there apple dessert. Not sure what it was but something tasted a little burned - maybe it was the sauce. We had a very nice time, both the chef and the waiter was very service oriented and did all the could to make a great evening.
