Probably more like a 4.5*. Superb view of downtown and Beagle channel. Busy restaurant, glad we had reservations, one table was available waiting for us. Probably 18 to 20 4-person tables. Plus about a 10-person bar.
One negative was the initial service was slow, it took 20 plus minutes between receiving our menus to the second contact, nobody asked about drinks either. Upon finally coming to the table, service for the remainder of the meal was very prompt and courteous. Spoke very good English.
The food was of excellent quality and prepared very well, although neither of us particularly enjoyed the flavors. A bit of a discount here, but not much because every one's palate is different. Perhaps we are not accustomed to the finer quality.
It is obvious the restaurant aspires greatly to provide a higher level dining experience.
Cost was great for what we got,. About 45USD for 2 without drinks. One meal was the most expensive on the menu the other mid priced.
I had the Chilean Sea Bass (Merluza? negra) with king crab, shrimp and baby octopus, I didn't like the lemon butter sauce, but I'm not a big lemon fan. Guess I focused on the items not the sauce. My partner had the black seafood ravioli, pasta was cooked well, but the enclosed probably salmon was average at best.
In summary the experience to us was much better than the food.
One general tip regarding Ushuaia, the king crab has been disappointing 3 times. If Alaska king crab we're like this, it would be about $3.00US per pound in the states, instead of...
Read moreVery mixed experience here. A place that trys to be pretentious but just comes across as talking down to you. We had dinner. Definitely a great location with a nice view. Inside there was a crowd of staff behind the bar who did not seem to do a lot but to enjoy conversation amongst themselves.....a lot. Great young waiter though. My wife had a hake dish with a mix of incredibly good cooked vegetables. I had a steak cooked medium rare as ordered. A good cut of meat but tasteless. I know, seems impossible but there was no outside searing whatsoever. Maybe my mistake and it was supposed to be that way. Disappointed on that one because it ain't cheap! When paying the bill I handed over my credit card and soon an incredibly angry guy comes to our table showing my card was declined. He just kept shouting about it. We tried again. Declined again even though we had used this card all day. Another card was immediately accepted and he literally throws my card and receipt on our table and walked away with a grumpy scowl worthy of the best of Italian waiters. It was one of those situations that was so bad you just have to laugh. However we are from Ireland and I thought I was going to have to rugby tackle my wife from hurting the guy she was so mad. Anyway just our experience. Who the heck reads long...
Read moreWe were lucky enough to be seated at a table by the window with a lovely, sunny view of beagle canal. The menu was impressive and everything sounded delicious but then we weren't that impressed when we compared to other good parilla restaurants in the area. This restaurant is a great choice if you want some variety but not necessarily for the steak-lovers out there who are in it for the meat! King crab linguine was more like a soup with an overpowering sea food taste. Steak marinated in an almost sweet-tasting malbec was most definitely a winner (though the baked potato filled with cheese and ham on the side was really too much to enjoy). Dessert - Fuegian berry ice cream on a thin layer of sponge, covered in whipped cream and chocolate flakes was so much that we could, easily share. Staff don't speak much English but this didn't bother us. Quite...
