Decided to visit this very high rated restaurant and experience some nice flavoursome food but unfortunately did not meet the hype 😞 All dishes that we ordered were pretty bland and missing that burst of flavours you expect. The garlic and walnut Escargot was bland and had hardly any garlic. I was with friends who are very big on French food and they were pretty disappointed. The baked brie sounded really good but i did not like it and it had a bitter taste to it. The one main dish i was looking forward to was the bouillabaisse!! But again left disappointed with very subtle flavours and the only seafood that tasted fresh and was cooked well was the salmon in it. All the other dishes needed salt and more flavour. One dish that wasn't to bad was the duck main with mash and mushroom and truffle sauce. The duck was cooked well and tasty but where was this truffle flavour you speek of? Overall unfortunately i won't be going back. In regards to the response from the restaurant, well done on you're "professional" response which will definitely get you 5 stars!!! No need to be a smart cookie!! Plus, lockdown and covid have nothing to do with adding seasoning on you're food! Or having a flavour that is mentioned on the menu but you can not taste! I never once questioned the service recieved either. You had plenty of staff on which again was never questioned but you decided to bring that up. If you are unable to take honest feedback by a paying customer that wasn't satisfied then maybe you shouldn't be running a business or responding to people who have every right to be honest. I was never rude or even harsh about the food!! Just honest and constructive. Would love to have you over for a meal in my house because i take feedback on board which would improve something that someone wasnt...

Definitely a favourite for lunch or dinner!

I've been a few times over the recent months for a work lunch and tried the Reuben and the Croque Madame - delightful! Service is relatively quick but you'd still want to set aside an hour for lunch, just in case.

My partner and I had the 3 course shared menu and - oh my word. It started with the pork meatballs with blue cheese sauce (holy heck, my partner doesn't usually rate blue cheese and loved these!), then there was the anchovy pizza (im not a big anchovy person but it was surprisingly tasty) and also the charcuterie board. The paté was so good, the pork scratchings were warm, the bread was fresh and the sliced meats were great! It was so much food already, you definitely get your monies worth!

The shared main we chose was the beef cheeks and came with a goats cheese salad - my partner demolished the beef cheeks and I loved the salad too. The salad had so much flavour and the beef was really flavourful.

I believe the dessert was the nougat parfait. It was something different and the perfect palate cleanser, we did roll out of the restaurant though!

We ended up going back a couple of weeks after for my birthday and I had the Bouillabaisse this time and WOW! The amount (and quality) of the seafood was great for $39. A decent half of crab, 3 juicy scallops, 4 or so prawns and probably half a dozen mussels and pipis. The only thing I'd say is the salmon belly didn't really go with the rest of the flavours but the broth was so tasty I didn't really mind!

The customer service is great, super friendly but professional as well!

The cocktails can take a little while but they're worth it!

Definitely on the regular...

I used to love dining here, I've visited many times and both staff and food have been consistently fantastic. It saddens me to say that last night's experience left me flat and disappointed. It's unlikely I will return to be honest.

The lukewarm welcome we got on arrival set the tone and the lack lustre service from the same gentleman, where everything seemed too much of an effort, the lack of eye contact, well we felt like an annoyance rather than welcome guests and it sealed the deal.

Gone it seems are the staff that used to make us feel so warmly welcomed. Gone also was the flair with the dishes we had previously so enjoyed - sorry, but I didn't feel the love in any of it.

The medium rare steak i ordered arrived rare .. no problem, it happens. Steak adjusted, same plate, same (by now cold) fries. Apologies from the kitchen was appreciated, but again, not delivered with any particular care.

Having read some of the responses from management, to negative feedback in reviews, It will be interesting to see what the response to this review will be.

Customers are entitled to an opinion, this review was written with the express purpose of constructive feedback not as an attack or an invitation for management to criticise me for having said opinion.

An opinion I hasten to add, formulated from my direct experience, because I chose to dine with you, along with my friends.

So after posting this review I now get a one star review on my business from the chef of Delicatessen, who by the way has never used my services.

How unprofessional and petty is it to stalk the people that leave an honest review of their...

My partner and I had the most wonderful evening at Delicatessen on Waymouth Street. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome, they were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout the night. Their warmth really elevated the whole experience and made it feel special. We started with the chive and raclette croquettes and the pork and thyme meatballs with blue cheese sauce, both of which were absolutely delicious, rich, comforting, and beautifully presented. For mains, we each ordered the pan-roasted duck leg and breast, one with the Lyonnaise salad and one with the truffle and mushroom sauce over mashed potato. The duck was cooked to perfection, it was so tender, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. To finish, we shared the crème brûlée with madeleines and citrus curd, which was creamy, silky, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The atmosphere was intimate and romantic, with a cozy, elegant setting that made it perfect for a date night. Between the exceptional food, the impeccable service, and the lovely ambience, Delicatessen Kitchen and Bar has easily become one of our favourite spots in Adelaide. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a romantic night out with amazing food and hospitality!

came here on a weekday night to celebrate my birthday. ordered the baked brie, duck confit and mussels to share within 2 people. the staff was nice, she kindly recommended for us to switch to a bigger table so that there is enough space for the dishes. she also came to check up on us quite frequently. the baked brie was delicious and the sourdough bread was very tasty. the sweetness of the caramelised wine, the savoury brie and the chewy bread makes one of the best bites i’ve had in this restaurant. the duck confit was not to my liking. i don’t know if this is normally how it is done as i have yet to try much french food but i felt that the duck itself lacks flavour, the truffle sauce wasn’t strong enough to make it better. the mussels were okay, but they were way too salty for me. the dish came with some bread on the side and they weren’t good. some parts of the bread, just below the outer crust were really chewy like it is almost underbaked? also, the chips were not crispy at all. overall, it was an ok experience. the food were not up to my expectations and they were definitely not worth the prices. maybe in the far future, i might try the other dishes such as the escargot and the meatballs.
