Uncle, please come back.
When I first visited six months ago on a friend's recommendation, your chicken rice instantly reminded me of home. Ever since, I’ve always made a point of stopping by whenever I’m in the CBD, looking forward to the comfort and familiarity your food offers.
Unfortunately, my last two visits have been disappointing. Although the setting and ingredients seem unchanged, the quality has noticeably declined. The rice soggy, the chicken portions smaller, the taugeh incognito, and the vegetables overcooked and haphazardly drenched in congealed oyster sauce. Even before closing time, you'll have run out of something: soup, chicken and even rice.
Another noticeable change: the “boss” isn’t present anymore, replaced by staff who don’t appear to share the deep connection with this cuisine that once set your place apart.
I sincerely hope you’ll return and reclaim your kitchen. Adelaide doesn’t have many options for authentic Southeast Asian food. Please don’t offer the community a taste of home, only to take it away.

As you can see by the photos, presentation could be improved significantly
Crispy skin chicken was not crispy or overly juicy like people have been saying, but I was impressed by the pork’s flavour and crunchiness of the crackling. The broth that comes with the chicken rice is also very refreshing and flavourful.
The shallot pancake was extremely disappointing for $5, and the fried egg was over $3 and was not seasoned in any special way, quite literally is just a plain fried egg. Laksa broth was okay, just tasted like a broth you can make from a powder/packet.
Unsure why I can’t change the amount we spent on this review, me and my partner spent around $50 for our meal
Overall it was quite good but probably...
Read more'Uncle's' chicken rice, the best in town, I'd say. My family mostly ordered the party pack delivered- decently good value. O'town value dine-in pack is excellent value too, just that I couldn't compare as its always sold out! We dined in today, 4 pax family meal. The vegetables is a nice touch, would be perfect with the soup as a set meal. Dine-in experience beats takeaways, just the busy location limits. The steamed chicken, is excellent, roast chicken just about close second. Roast pork is another good choice here. Chicken rice is light and fluffy 👍 Ginger sauce is light- I prefer more gingery taste. Chili sauce is on the sweet, tangy after taste. Overall, a perfect place to fix a chicken rice...
