A lot of Radelaide bars and pubs claim to be "your friendly neighbourhood bar", but none come close to Good Gilbert. From the moment you walk in - whether you're a newcomer or a part of the furniture - the GG team treat you (and your dog) like a long lost friend!
This place is a go-to for any occasion. Knock off drinks? Yes, sir. Date night? Absolutely? Casual hangs? You bet. Hell, your tinder date ghosted you after promising the world and you just need to wallow in your own self-pity with a stiff drink and a little snacky, snack offloading to the bar staff? Sign me up!
No matter the occasion, do yourself a favour and allow Wilson or Rhi to handle the wine selection for you. These two are geniuses and even provided with only the vaguest idea of the style you like, they're guaranteed to pick you out a winner! For those a little less willing to throw caution to the wind, the quality drinks list is expansive and ever-changing so go your hardest. There's something to satisfy everyone.
Now, for the food. Admittedly it took me some time to finally try out the goods at Good Gilbert. But once I did, I haven't looked back. Sav's menu (and every iteration) is unique and delicious and damn well priced given the quality and quantity on offer. I have even found myself using the steaks at GG as a reference point for comparing every steak I try at other venues now. 9 times out of 10… "Sav's steak was better". Last nights Wagyu? The new baseline. Oh and that panna cotta? Get. In. Me.
The newly opened restaurant space offers a more intimate dining experience, with a more extensive menu than that of the bar area. This extra space allows for more bums on seats which hopefully translates to more people getting to experience all the goods that GG offers!
All in all, GG is one of my favourite bars in Adelaide. The only downside? It's not within walking distance to my house. But alas, you can't...
Read moreDinner at @goodgilbert.adl: a couple of months ago they opened the restaurant section of their bar, and we've been meaning to try it out. The food is great, the service is super friendly, and the drinks menu is very extensive! Great place to visit for a good time 🙂🙂🙂. . Vegemite gougere: great little bite sized snacks! The flavours were super delicious 🤤🤤🤤. The Vegemite flavour was not overpowering, and worked very well! . Smoked duck ham, mandarin oil: very nice smokey flavours! . Steak, cheese & onion tartare: this was soooooo good! The tartare was absolutely perfection 😋🤤😍. . Great southern 250gm flank: excellent steak! Perfectly cooked. Great seasoning and sauce 😍. . Daily fish (this day's fish is similar to snapper), cherry tomato fumet: the skin was super crispy, and the fish was very tender and juicy. Very nicely done 😍. . Alba white lamb, carrot buerre noisette: good tender lamb meat. Can't complain! . Kestrel potatoes in meat sauce, grana padano: of course you can't go wrong with potatoes 🙂. . Cucumber, yuzu sesame, kosho dressing: excellent side dish. Nice and refreshing 🙂. . Wattleseed beignet, whey caramel: I really enjoyed this dessert!! The beignet was so good with the caramel sauce 🤤🤤🤤. . Mango cheek, buttermilk granita: very simple dessert. It tasted very good but it is literally half a mango with...
Read moreBooked a table for 5 people for a 6:00pm dinner. Restaurant not full when we arrived. Such a beautiful afternoon, one of our party suggested we sit outside. Asked the waitress if we could sit outside and she called us "Inconsiderate". On questioning, she said that they could have offered the inside table to someone else (note - restaurant not full, early dinner, and regardless of where we sit - we're still spending the same $). She also said that the menu was different outside. We asked what the difference was and she said that there is no 'feed me' menu and extra things on top of what the inside menu had. Point blank refused to let us look at the outside menu to see saying "Well there's no point until you decide" and called us inconsiderate again! We did sit outside in the end, and she tried to seat us around a small round table for 5. We had to ask whether we could have two tables together and she did it with poor grace. When we left, still open tables inside so it seems we were not at all 'inconsiderate' in preventing someone else from dining. So disappointing. The food was really nice, but dining out with friends is a treat and is meant to be relaxing (no dishes etc!) but this really ruined the...
