2 stars. I have driven past this restaurant for years and always wanted to try it. Will I be back, sadly, no. We entered the restaurant to be greeted by a friendly young man who spoke little English but enough to get us to our table. Within 2 minutes we were greeted by the owner and asked what we wanted, which we were ill prepared for as we had not been there before, so I said " tell me a about how this all works", which I then was told about the history of the restaurant and how she is the new owner. Not actually the information I was looking for, but a happy side note. We asked for 5 mins to decide, which turned into 15 mins. We were watching other tables being served and decided to go up to the counter and order ourselves. They took my order, a bottle of rose, Angus beef, some entrees and a plate of selection C - mixed grill. We waited about 10mins and was served a broth. Now I have seen the photos other people have posted in reviews, and the broth looked very light on its ingredients. It was more water than anything else. We were then served our selections plate. No instructions, no wine, no rice, just a plate of uncooked meats. They turned on the grill and walked off. Great. I asked for our bottle of wine, which the young man said yes I will get for you, and 10 mins later the owner came over and said sorry, we don't have that bottle, but we have this other brand which is the same price. It was a charge of $55 for the bottle, and its a cheap $10 Cupio brand from WW owned BWS/Dan Murphy's. Yuck. My antenna is now up on this place. The waiter us directed by the owner to open our bottle of wine, which is a screw top, however, our waiter gets a knife and starts to try to "cut" the wrapper/label. I warn him to stop as it's a screw top and not a paper wrapper. I unscrew it and show him how to open the bottle! He then nods and walks off, thinking his job is done. So we pour our own glasses, take a sip and giggle at how gross the wine is. It's compared to Passion Pop in my eyes. The spring rolls come out, scoldingly hot, to the point my friend burnt her taste buds, ouch! The meat we cooked got stuck to the grill really easily and the fish got so stuck it fell apart and was inedible. There was no oil, and the stick used to handle the meat was ineffective most of the time. About 2/3 of the way through we were served our rice, which felt like an after thought. The little dishes of accompanying pickles do not look like the other review pictures, which were full, we had the diet/skimpy version. We finish cooking our food, head to the toilets, which are filthy and gross. It was finished off by being given a painful $155 bill for a experience we will never forget. My feedback- new owner, get it together. You have a fantastic location, but if you are treating your customers like chumps you will fail. Clean your toilets and...
Read moreIt's with a heavy heart that I have to write this about what was once one of my favourite restaurants, in the hope that the new management might lift their game. I have been coming to this Adelaide staple since the early 90s and until recently (apparently with new management), it had been a dependently delicious, bountiful and welcoming experience. No matter the decade, the food was consistently amazing, generous banchan, and the service wonderfully warm and inviting. Unfortunately, since the former (magnanimous) owners retired, new ownership and the new menus haven't done the place any favours. We attended today for lunch, and had to literally flag the millennial waitstaff for everything multiple times, even for our initial order. I'd understand this if the place was bumping, but we were the ONLY people in the restaurant. Then, when the anorexic banchan came out, and I noticed the usual pickled seaweed was no longer included, we ordered it as an additional dish. After waiting a further 20min to get the (reduced portion) BBQ and meat on, and nearly completing the meal, we had AGAIN to remind the waitstaff of the seaweed order, and were sorely disappointed. It was literally something one can get from a packet, and no longer the subtle sesame-flavoured pickle I had come to expect and savour. The kids still wanted the fondue, but again the waitstaff ignored us (still the only customers there), and we had to deploy the kids to directly ask him for the order at the kitchen/bar. Normally, the table would be completely cleared for dessert, but this guy wasn't into it and we had to shuffle things together for him as a hint (though it still wasn't done). I'm glad that the former owners are able to retire and enjoy the proceeds of such a successful business (how many restaurants can boast staying in business for over 3 decades?), but I'm at the same time sad and grieving that it just isn't the same anymore. I'm pretty sure that many former regular customers would be just as disillusioned. I hope that some improvements are made, or at the very least, back to the original high standard Korea Restaurant had before. If not, we...
Read moreThis place needs to close its doors. I visited 15 years ago with my mum and had a great experience but coming back left me in tears. The food was so horrible I couldn't eat any of it, the soup had me scared it would makee I'll, the squid rings were overcooked and oliy, the rice was dry, the meat had no flavor, the hot plates were the worst quality. I don't usually complain but I had too directly as it was so bad. When i did tell the front of house lady she blamed me for and how I cooked it when I'm a very confident cook and discarded I was talking about the food the chef had cooked. Then she went and blamed me saying it wasn't her fault I was in a bad mood as if she meant it was about me personally when the only thing that put me that way was that place. No compensation and they took no reliability for the horrible food that came out. I'll never go back again an I'll tell everyone else to avoid!
*Edit- to the owners comment, that is an absolute lie, I left hungry and got myself takeout. I told the lady I don't feel comfortable paying for anything when it was horrible, I said I'll pay for what was eaten from my friend dining but not my share. I was considering asking for something else on the menu but we had the banquet option which had items all through the menu, we left before dessert because I was that frustrated. Man up and take it when...
