Henley Surf Life Saving Club — Restaurant in Adelaide

I don’t normally like leaving bad reviews but have always loved visiting this location on my trips to Adelaide and this was my first time back since it became ‘ocean’ and I was so disappointed. I don’t mind paying more for an elevated experience but we ordered two Margaritas which tasted like bad pre mix for $22 each (no salted rim, tasted like they barley had a shot of tequila, either not real lime or wayyy too much simple syrup) and one of the most disappointing charcuterie plates I’ve had (it was like they’d bought sandwich cold cuts from the supermarket with cheap olives and a weirdly large amount of canned artichoke hearts with stale bread). Thought I would bring the family here for a family lunch to celebrate a milestone birthday with a view of the sea. Unfortunately, due to renovations, the view was a sheet of builders plastic with just a small strip of daylight visible. An internet search for the menu showed a totally different menu to that which was presented at the table. The prices were much higher and the options nothing like what I could see online. Having a look later I still couldn’t find a current menu online? The meals chosen weren’t too bad in general, but the 350g steak was definitely not 350g. Visiting from the UK and unexpectedly found ourselves at this restaurant! From the moment we arrived the friendly welcome said it all and it only got better! Lovely staff, attention to the customer but not over the top, great advice on menu items and an excellent menu selection! We went for the the linguine la mere which clearly had been freshly prepared and was packed full of flavoursome seafood! Having enjoyed similar food around the world this meal certainly was one of the best we have ever had! Adam the Executive Chef was moving around checking on his customers enjoyment and the service!
