Only good thing going for this place is (some of) the Wagyu. The Deluxe Sashimi Platter (2-3 person) is a joke, do not get this - not only is it tiny (maybe 2 person entree??), the seafood is not fresh - the best was the scampi which was OK, but you only get one (if you look at an older reviewers picture for the 4-5 person sashimi platter it just looks like cooked prawn... :/ ). First timers to wagyu please note that not all wagyu is the same!! Tried three different cuts of Australian wagyu - Special Wagyu Sirloin, Wagyu Short Rib and Wagyu Chuck Roll. The best out of all three was the Sirloin (the other two were quite chewy and had a slightly beefy taste - 100% purebred wagyu should not have this taste). It would be nice if the menu advertised which farm the cuts came from - we were only drawn to this shop because one of the articles the shop was featured in referred to Mayura Station being one of the suppliers. I have a feeling it might just be the "special" wagyu that's from Mayura Station, which has a distinct sweet taste and smell. Our waitress for the night was very nice but had no idea when we asked when we were ordering which was a disappointment. Accompanying basic side dishes (pickles, rice and mushrooms for the grill) need improvement - rice was dry (! ! !) and mushrooms were bland (there were no sauces or salt in the foil package). The charcoal grill was uncomfortably hot (unless you like to burn your face off while eating). The fume extraction vent is also quite annoying because it's so low it's hard to pick and flip your food on the grill without knocking it. Because of the type of grill (extremely hot coal) and strong ventilation, you will not be able to enjoy the smell...

came in expecting a lovely dinner for valentines day with my partner and was left so so extremely disappointed. staff are so dreadfully unaware of their customers and what needs to be attended to (I work in hospitality, I know). waited over 40 mins for the starter of our banquet, and when it arrived we didn't get a mere apology at all. The rest came out far too quick as we had more courses to get through than table room, quite frustrating that there is an inability to take into account of how we are traveling. I had sent a course back as I, a paying customer about to spend upwards of $150 was not at all amused about deheading and peeling prawns myself! asked nicely if it could just be done as felt uncomfortable doing it myself and I found myself in an argument with the waitress, only for it to come back with just the shell of so had to do it myself anyways :(. As well as us getting through all the food (that really was delicious) nobody seemed to care about our piling dishes as countless times they were looked at and ignored. dessert finally came around and placed in front of us and yet no dishes taken back to the kitchen, we quite literally had no room to eat comfortably! A terrible dining experience that the servers really noticed but didn't seem to care, did not even ask us how our foods when we paid, just pushed the eftpos to us without a word. Truly disappointing as the food was delicious. Wont be back until staff is trained appropriately, prices should reflect service as well. Lift your...

We ordered the Assorted  Kimchi, Premium Japanese and Australian Wagyu Platter, Wagyu Ribeye, Pork Belly and Grilled Misoyaki Kingfish. The Assorted Kimchi was a bit disappointing as it only consisted of a seaweed salad, pickled cucumber and standard kimchi, albeit they still tasted OK. The pork belly was a standard cut you could get from the butcher so nothing to rave about there. The kingfish was a tad overcooked, however it was delicious! The smoke in the fish went really well with the fruit sauce (mind you, I've never been a fruit sauce person) and the slight peppery-ness from the raw radish went well with the oily fish.

The main fare - the beef - did not disappoint. The cuts were that fresh and marbled that they don't even need the soy/sweet sauce that came with them (and that says something coming from a sauce fanatic). Our favourite cuts were the short rib and sirloin (of course) as they tasted the 'beefiest' and simply melted in your mouth.

Service was OK as food was quick to be served and servers were attentive, though it was slightly annoying how they tried to clear some dishes really quickly and also left others uncleared. Overall, it was a memorable night as my husband and I enjoyed each other's company slowly grilling and savoring some high quality beef. We will return. [Total Bill exc....

Overpriced and not "authentic" Service: - supposedly authentic japanese restaurant is run by chinese owner and the waiters spoke chinese - our table was very dirty at the start, when asked to replace the dirty grill which had oil and grease left behind by previous users, the waiter called it "clean" - waiters seemed like they did not want to work here which can be reflected in the poor service Food: - $190 set menu (95pp) food was very low and poor quality, definitely not worth the high price - seafood was covered and doused with sauces as if to hide the poor quality of the produce, there was no seafood flavour and only taste of sauces - meat was not A5 quality as advertised - smaller side dishes felt very cheap and did not make sense, for example "tomatos grapes and cream" which was watery and did not look appetising at all; and "brocollini" which was doused with supermarket sesame sauce and rice seasoning - food so bad we did not even want to finish or take away even though the price was so high - several other restaurants in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne offer food of much higher quality for the same price - food here is worth half the advertised price
