Let me preface this by saying I barely if ever, write reviews for places, good or bad. This was certainly a day of what could go wrong did go wrong. It was my partner's birthday and she wanted to go somewhere nice for brunch. The types of places aren't my scene but I do it for her.
We arrived about 11am Christmas Eve and it was pretty busy so we got a table inside, however it was fairly warm inside as there isn't much airflow, so we looked over the menu and asked for some more time to decide. We saw a couple leaving who were seated out front in the shade so we spoke to our waiter who advised we could move, he then took our orders for food and drinks and moved us to the new table.
I ordered the Lamb Mince Pita and an Ice Coffee and my partner the Pork Burger but with Chicken instead of pork which is a option on their menu plus a watermelon mixed juice (she asked for a takeaway cup but they don't do juices takeaway.)
So about 30 minutes pass and we have yet to receive anything, no big deal it was busy however people have started clearing out. 45 minutes pass and one of the waitresses comes up and asked if we would like some more drinks... We explained we hadn't even seen our first, she goes off to see what happened. She comes back and says they'll be right out, I asked her about our meals so she went to look for them. Turns out our order had been lost. This is going on an hour now.
We quickly work out if we want to wait or just leave, I figured we been there waiting with nothing to show so far so what's another 30 or so. We reorder our food but now they had run out of pita, so I opt to have it with just bread instead, we continue waiting. It eventually comes as to the drinks... We start eating, however after my partner cuts her burger and already eats part of the salad, she sees they have given her pork where she asked for chicken. She decides to just have it since it's been over an hour and a half and we're starving.
The owner, I assume, came up to us to try and work out where it all went wrong, we also inform him of the pork/chicken mix up, he says he'd look into it and says he'll knock a couple items off the bill. We finish our meals and drinks which were ok, probably would have been better without all the nonsense before hand so we were a little sour. The owner catches us on the way in and has the audacity to say that the juice has been left off... only the juice...
This is what got me the most angry, we came waited, didn't cause a scene, asked nicely, even gave your establishment a chance after all the mess, ordered the overpriced food and drink which I don't mind paying for good produce, but then they messed up a meal as well, and that's the best they can do. Knock $5 off the price... Unbelievable.
I would have rated it at least 3 up until that point, but the way he said the juice has been left off was like he was doing us a favour. What a joke. One star is all they get now and we won't be back. Completely upset my partner as well who wanted a nice birthday brunch which is surprisingly hard with everyone trying to organise Christmas and they piss it up against a wall.
I work in customer service and I would get reemed if I did anything like this. I'm a 30 year old odd male tradie, who barely writes any reviews, doing this while celebrating my partner's bday and Christmas Eve. That is just how much this annoyed me/us.
Next time we should have just left after placing the order and they can wait for us...
Read moreUPDATE- RESPONSE TO OWNERS RESPONSE Thank you owner, for your defensive and passive-aggressive response. You took no responsibility for not getting my order right, and for charging a hefty price for your meals. Yes, of course I saw the prices on your menu, so please do not insult my intelligence. I have no objection to paying when it is fair, but your meals are somewhat on the small size for what you charge. I could have spent just a few dollars more and had a steak with roasted vegetables and gravy elsewhere.
You also said you would need a team of chefs to accommodate everyone's wishes for changes; that it would cost you a fortune. I sincerely doubt that you have one (1) chef in the kitchen. No fully qualified chef would work in a cafe poaching eggs all day.
It would serve you well to consider constructive criticism, be sincerely apologetic, and offer some kind of reparation to entice patrons back into your establishment. Clearly, by your common theme of responses to negative reviews, you care very little about your clientele. Like I said in my review below, that is not good business practice.
ORIGINAL REVIEW I really don't see why this place is so popular. I saw a photo of a menu on their website and had my heart set on a dish, but was told that it was no longer available and that it couldn't be made because all of the food is prepped. I then asked if one of the dishes could be modified by removing some ingredients and adding others. My dish arrived with no changes to that on the menu, with the exception of only 1 of the ingredients I asked to be added. The ingredients I asked to be removed were still included. To top it off, I paid more than $30 for what I considered to be an average poached egg breakfast; and not a morsel of meat was on the plate. I don't believe that costs have risen to excuse such an increase. I was so disappointed with the experience that I will not be returning.
I've read previous negative reviews here and the owners responses were most disatisfactory, with him/her/them blaming the customer. Not good business...
Read moreCoffee needs work. Usually colder than the optimal 52-68°C serving temperature. Not a once off, every coffee I’ve ever got there (3 times has been the same- but hey at least they’re consistent albeit luke warm) •Menu is significantly smaller since renovations • the place has a nice atmosphere and a cute place to catch up with friends. Very 1970s European house. •Staff are friendly…except there is one guy who is always sitting down with a laptop on a table that sits at least four, despite being alone. They always have paperwork and a laptop there too, but also goes behind the counter to keep up appearances perhaps. Maybe the owner? Anyways this individual suggested I sit outside as I had a child in my company, probably on the premise that the child would make a mess- which is understandable… BUT also very generalised, as this child was only there for a small baby chino and not messy. I get it, kids are gross but we can’t assume that because they’re young that they will be messy. I almost felt like suggesting, whilst we’re all generalising (at the time), assumably by the paper work and laptop spread out over a table in the restaurant that this person, who I assume is the manager should utilise an office or something to that effect, instead of taking up viable patron space. There were no seats outside - the new outside bit was quote “Only for weekends” - so it’s like bro, where am I supposed to sit? Cos the front was also full. Share a table with some people? Cute but- aren’t kids messy? L O L Anyways, Look it’s not my business but if it was I, I defs wouldn’t be conducting food orders or tax related activities inside the restaurant I was owning and yeah get the coffee right and maybe I’ll come back.
It’s a 2/5 for me. Thanks...
