Currently on holiday in Adelaide visiting a friend and of course I had to kick my trip off with a local Aussie brunch. This café is one of my friend's favourites in town so naturally we decided to meet up here for a overdue reunion after 4.5 years.
The vibes were absolutely lovely, warm interior design which gave off a very homely feeling as you as stepped in. They operate a half table service where you order and pay at the counter and then you are served with your food at your table.
Coffee came first. I ordered a cappuccino and my friend a flat white. I would rate it 3.5/5, it tasted different to the coffee I usually have in London and I am not sure how to describe it. Maybe it's the different milk they use here but it's just not what I prefer. We ordered the chilli scramble and sliced avocados on rye bread and both were great. The scrambled eggs were actually so spicy that surprised me since I had assumed that locals won't be able to deal with the spice level but it's nicely made with the high quality sourdough toast. The avocados came with a slightly sweet mascapone which was so delightful, refreshing and stimulated my appetite together with the fresh cherry tomatoes. The rye bread was unique as it was toasted and didn't taste like the kind we have in Europe, I really enjoyed the combination.
Service was good, nothing particularly outstanding though. Overall, I gave this place a 4/5, certainly one I am willing to re-visit before...
Read moreWhile the café had an interesting setting and friendly staff, there were some areas for improvement. The coffee and biscoff latte could benefit from a more robust flavor, as they fell a bit flat.
Additionally, the poached eggs on toast, while cooked adequately, lacked a distinct taste or presentation to make them memorable.
Although the use of Kewpie mayonnaise might appeal to some, it didn't add much to the dishes we ordered. Perhaps incorporating more unique and locally-sourced ingredients or adding a special twist to the menu items could enhance the overall experience. Adding some bush herbs to the mayo?
Lastly, while the staff was attentive, the wait time for our food (I had to move the car and it took maybe 50 mins - 1hr to get seated, order and for the wife to be presented with her eggs on toast) seemed excessive, even during peak hours.
Improving efficiency in the kitchen and better communication with customers about wait times could help create a more enjoyable dining experience. Felt like people reserving tables and then waiting for other members to join before they order also decreases the utilisation of the space and efficiency. One table sitting next to us waiting 25 minutes for one guy to show up before they order. Maybe abandon reservations and don't let people sit until all guests...
Read moreI went today (Thursday) with my friend. We haven’t seen in a while so I thought it was a good idea to go there and spend some time together. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. We got there at 11:20 and they basically kicked us out at 12:40. Not even an hour and a half. Just because the restaurant has a reservation in the same table I was. What kind of experience is that?? The restaurant it’s supposed to be prepare for that. If we were there for more than 2-3 hours, ok I get it. But we just finished our dishes and 10 minutes before the waitress came to tell us that. Even in an “all you can eat” you have more time to eat then in this cafe. We spent $90 dollar which is not cheap so I would expect at least a decent time to eat and enjoy. If I would want to eat in a rush I would stay at home. You should at least let us know this time limit up front. About the food, I ordered pouched eggs and they where basically har boiled eggs. We also ordered French toast whit “Brie cheese” and trust me, I’ve eaten Brie cheese my whole life and that wasn’t brie. It was only butter. They used butter trying to imitate Brie. Not good at all. The place it’s really nice for photos with a good music though. But I wouldn’t go there if you want to have a good time and eat something nice....
