I had high hopes for this place when I heard about it but was utterly disappointed after visiting for dinner. The service was great, I can’t really fault it. All the staff seemed friendly and helpful enough. The food was average to say the least. The pizza was small (think standard large size pizza) and very thin crust (I assume rolled very flat to make the pizza appear larger), it was overall pretty bland and didn’t have much topping either (see photo). The waitress even said that one of their pizzas is enough for 2 adults lol I’d finished it within 5 minutes or so and was still rather hungry. For what you get, the price is also quite high, at $27 each (ham and pineapple, or lack their off). The other thing that bothered me was their lack of selection of beverages. No soft drink of any kind and if you don’t like their very limited selection of random alcohol, your choice is either water or apple juice (I’m not even joking). The atmosphere was nice and cozy with the fires and pizza ovens but the place is a labyrinth and hard to navigate around especially since I’d never been there before. I also found it odd to go through a garden gate to access the restaurant. I could see why hipsters and the like would enjoy it but it’s not for me. I wouldn’t recommend or go back for a...
Read moreI have 2 homes both in Adelaide and in aldinga so I've had the best of both worlds when it comes to pizza. I'm almost certain that the extremely high praise is coming from those who haven't had a larger variety of pizza from various bars and restaurants. My family come to this place all the time so I tag along and the experience is always the same.
Before the pizzas even arrive we've always had to wait way too long. I'm talking an hour to even an hour and a half before the first one arrives. The staff seems fine I can't complain about them, it's the food that doesn't get the high praise from me.
When they do that's a whole new story. Sometimes they're soggy, burnt and very un evenly spread out toppings (You could start from the edge and work your way in 3 slices before actually getting to the toppings). Not to mention that due to the incredibly thin dough and the extremely lazy toppings with the centre pieces you're in for a messy feed.
At the end of the day I'm just expressing my opinion whether it be an unpopular one or not. My family seems to enjoy it so who am I to judge. I personally feel that this place is a...
Read morePizza's have moved past what you get at Russell's these days. Whilst originally sold on the unique setting and a gourmet pizza with almost a cult following they are now sadly missing the bit you pay for gourmet pizza. After enjoying many a long weekend journeys to Russell's my view over the last two visits was confirmed...third time unlucky you could say! Soggy base, no salt in the sauce and an offensive cabana on the meat lovers is not worth the $20+ a pizza, who puts cabana on pizza anyway?! With the influx of young Italians escaping the European financial crisis you are best spending your pizza allowance at one of the new establishments in the city or heading to one of the many good restaurants in the region. If you are still lured by the unique setting and like the idea of carting in your esky to sit around a woodfire, sit back enjoy the atmosphere of the place and have no expectation on...
