I've eaten here occasionally for several decades and it's always been great. Last night was a very different experience!
We travelled especially for their Monday pasta special, "Buy one get one free", as we did several months ago and enjoyed it. Their website showed that as still being an active promotion. Their website has now been edited to remove this promotion, as of this morning.
On paying, I was informed the special is now "Buy one, get second one 50% off".
We questioned the staff about this and informed them that Spargos were contravening consumer law by falsely advertising a promotion on their website that they didn't honour.
Their manager visited our table and we politely advised him of our consumer rights under ACCC consumer law. He aggressively argued with us at length and even insulted us, despite us backing down and repeatedly asking him to leave us to our meal, which was now ruined.
He eventually left, then returned a while later looking like he might cry. He gave us a $15 voucher to use there and me a free soft drink. Not sure I want to ever return there again after that ridiculous experience. Two stars given instead of one because he at least tried to offer a solution, though a refund for my overpayment was the only proper fix.
Here's a hint for businesses that deal with consumers - have at least a basic knowledge of consumer and...
Read moreWe use to love coming to spargos and I dont know what has happened but I would never return if you paid me.. waiters have absolutely zero interest to be at work. Rude and not helpful. The girl who served us with the sccent was so rude my 10 year old even commented on how rude she was.. ordered a big breakfast with soft poached eggs. Repeated the soft placed eggs part at least 3 times. Got my big breakfast and it was an absolute joke. 2 hard poached eggs on 2 pieces of toast so cold and stale I couldn't even cut it. 1 half of a mushroom lol this really got me because I love mushrooms and honestly a few mushrooms would have been great. A small pinch of raw spinach and a herb sausage with some tomatoes. My daughter pointed out to me the guys in the kitchen picking up all the food including raw eggs out the bucket to put in the microwave dish with no gloves and this made me feel ill. Touching raw eggs and all the other food is a recipe for disaster. 2 breakfast meals 1 water and 1 milkshake was $75. Everyone at the table was disgusted in the food and service. Not evem a thank you on the way out or have a good day. No one to come check how everything was. If I could give 0 stars I would because it was...
Read moreIf I could give it no stars I would. Firstly we reserved a table for New Year’s Eve at least a month ago. We arrive and our table has been taken because it’s busy so too bad for us and we got chucked on stools in the very back corner of the restaurant no apologies. Then when I order I ask to move tables because others have cleared up and my mother needs back support from better chairs. The waiter tells me it’s not their issue that our reserved table was taken. That’s not good enough. Eventually we moved tables because a lovely CUSTOMER helped us. We sat down and we have to clear our own disgusting table AND clean it. Even the people sitting across from us commented on how dirty the restaurant was. Then the food comes out. My medium rare steak was WELL OVER DONE, I couldn’t finish it. What a waste of money. My mother’s parmy was dry as anything once again almost in edible AND then she went to eat her chips so that it wasn’t a complete waste of money and there was a black hair on it. I used to eat regularly here, I don’t know if management has changed but I will NEVER be back and as someone who works in Marion Centre I will spread the word about this...
