When you read the name Taste of Nepal in a city such as Adelaide, the first reaction is to wonder if this is yet another of those generic "curry houses" that serve an approximation of Indian/Pakistani or similar food from the region. This was anything but. Although I have not been to Nepal, I've eaten food from the country in the North and East of India at outlets recommended to me by friends who know their food. That was good, but this was simply outstanding. The beetroot patties were an unusual yet perfect starter. Crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked through, with a chutney that matched. Pair this with a Mustang beer (from Nepal) and you can't go wrong. For mains, my friends and I went with a mix -- bhuteko vunta (eggplant), saag (spinach), poleko khasi (barbecued lamb) , daal (lentil) and chicken curry, with rice and roti. While the star of the day was the lamb, none of the other things on the table came close to disappointing. The lamb had a smoky, deep-flavoured crust, was moist and juicy on the inside, perfectly seasoned and all-round lip-smacking. It was one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten in my life. I'm not a big fan of eggplant, especially the way it is cooked in many parts of India, drowned in masalas and oil, but here was a delicate preparation in which the vegetable's flavours and textures were either retained fully or enhanced. The daal was mild yet flavourful, and you never got the feeling you were eating something either heavy or greasy. The spinach provided the contrast, a touch of bitterness that went well with the other food on our table. The chicken curry was the kind you could eat just as well with rice or roti, the meat and gravy working well together. The food was so good that I unfortunately ended up eating too much of it to leave any room for dessert. Other things I'd like to add: the decor is pleasing, and the photos of the mighty Himalaya are a sight for sore eyes. The service was exceptional and the house white wine great value. I will definitely be back for more. On this visit and any other time I come to Adelaide. So much to savour and so...
Read moreRude staff..!! We checked the reviews on google and went there thinking it ll be good time..!! We reached there 9.15pm (closing time 10pm). A staff member lead us to the table and gave menus. No mention to hurry up the order or anything. After 7-8 mins the waiter came to us and asked to order. I said we need 2 more minutes to decide and he says sorry the kitchen is closing so you have to order now. Not even allowing us to get minor 2 mins time.
Understandable they were closing kitchen at 9.30pm but then why no one told us when we went to the table.
After that when we ordered entree’s. And he went inside to give order inthe kitchen. In just 0.5 or max 1 min of time when he came back we ordered the mains as well and he literally made rude face. I could see clearly he made the face and left.
So weird that we just decided not to ruin our night due to some person who is in hurry to close off. Still 35 mins left on their scheduled time..!!
Explained things to manager before leaving and the waiter denied clearly that he didn’t make any face and apologised but still unacceptable behaviour. The other guy from the bar offered to do the take away or serve us there but no one can have their dinner with good mood if they don’t feel welcome.
Just an advise to the business - please mention the right kitchen closing time on google and website of not atleast let your customers know before taking them to the table so that they decide quickly instead of...
Read more"Inaccurate Dish and Overpriced, Owner's Attitude Needs Improvement “ I recently visited "Taste of Nepal" and was disappointed with my experience. The restaurant inaccurately labels Chicken Tandoori as Nepalese Sekuwa, which is misleading for those seeking authentic Nepali cuisine.
As a native Nepali, I can attest that Sekuwa has a distinct flavor that differs from Chicken Tandoori. This misrepresentation is ironic considering the restaurant's name. Additionally, the $33 price per plate is quite excessive.
While the staff were friendly, the owner's behaviour towards native Nepali customers was unwelcoming, and he seemed hesitant to engage in conversation with them especially in Nepali language. His pride in his fake Australian accent was off-putting.
I hope the restaurant takes these concerns seriously and addresses them to enhance the experience for customers looking for genuine...
