When my friend and I walked in to 30 Acres on a Friday morning , it was abuzz with lively patrons . We were seated immediately and offered a choice of sparkling or still water by a friendly server . It’s the little details like this that help give a good impression. ( and I much prefer sparkling water , especially on a hot summer’s day ) The menu was short and to the point , and most dishes had gluten free options- and they also offered a small juice menu which looked interesting. I ordered the potato doughnut ( which unfortunately came with bread as it’s not gluten free ) but I was told that beforehand so was prepared. It had the addition of pineapple salsa , which I could smell as it was put down in front of me . What could have been a basic bacon and egg toastie was elevated with the taste of the pineapple and addition of the haloumi and chorizo, which gave it a peppery taste . The relish on my friend’s bacon and eggs was amazing- I had a taste after she insisted . They really should bite and sell it . The watermelon mojito that my friend and I both ordered was amazing - just right for the heat of the day . The initial sweetness of the strawberries with watermelon undertones and the aftertaste of mint - I wonder if they do this in a cocktail because the taste was on point . This place has an open plan kitchen and an in house bakery where they bake their sourdough and fruit bread - as well as some pastries . We ordered a gluten free orange an almond cake to take away later and some iced lattes- which was a nice bold well roasted coffee with no butter aftertaste ( but I forgot to ask what it was - I’d be interested in the answer ) Apparently they also do gin cocktails in the evening and they did have a quite impressive range of South Australian gins so it would probably be worth a trip back . The only let down for me was the noise level , as high ceilings echo ( and there probably wasn’t any sound proofing) but that is my personal preference. This place was also visually appealing and we were both impressed with the artistic lighting , comfortable bench seat and custom made rounded front counter it reminded me a little of an Art Deco speakeasy . Lovely...

“NOT FRESHLY BAKED !!? (don’t care if baked on premise or not but atleast serve FRESH???) Not once - but SEVERAL times in last 2 months, have been served “black-topped”/ “burnt” on top croissants that had obviously been re-heated for days & “stale” carrot cakes whose cream has become sour!!? (so had to leave the carrot cake on the table & walk-off last week after informing waiting staff) Have been constantly asking staff during “every” visit in last 8 weeks that suddenly why they are serving stale carrot cakes & black/ burnt-topped bitter tasting filled croissants! But always receive following responses/ reaction from staff :-

  1. “sorry”
  2. then at times suddenly they decreased the prices of croissants over the counter (gave me no explanation exactly “why” the prices were decreased??)
  3. and if I directly keep pursuing with my above query :- the waiting staff keep insisting “these have been freshly baked today” & when I query “then why is the top black & bitter??”, the waiting staff then state :- “oh, it’s the baker…”. Poor baker!, he does such a good job of baking the most wonderful cakes & pastries but then they are now being re-heated constantly in an effort to sell the “old batch” - which then starts to taste black/ bitter as it gets burnt on the top & the cream on carrot cake turns sour too due to over-extending their self-life ?! I sent an email to the store last week re the above (after leaving the stale carrot cake on their table & walking out of their cafe) but sorry to say:- I received NO reply? Being a registered nurse who visits this store regularly, I am now seriously concerned re the food health & safety due to the stale pastries & cakes being served of late? I have been visiting this store often after my shift, as they used to bake & serve the most fresh & ‘melt in the mouth’ pastries in the world! Not any more,...

Worst customer service experience at this place. My partner and I have been to this Cafe a couple of times before. The very first time we were greeted by a guy with an ipad type of tablet ready to take our order, soon after we sat down. We told him we were not ready to order as we only wanted some coffee and cake and we wanted to see what kind of cakes they offer. My partner observed that this guy didn't look pleased as we were not ordering any meals and he left us to ourselves. Later we ordered from the counter and got excellent service from a girl. The second time we were served by another lovely girl who took time to explain the type of cake we have chosen. So we had two good experiences at this place. Today we went in and found a table. My partner went to the bathroom strict away. After a little while the same guy we had the first time came over with order iPad again to take our order. I told him we are not ready yet. He then rudely mumbled something like these woman take so long then walked away. I felt so offended and I stood up ready to leave and at the same time I said to him I didn't want to see his face again. He returned with some rude remarks and told me to leave. At that time my partner was coming back to the table so I signalled to her we are leaving. Twice now this guy displayed a disgusting attitude that if you are not ordering a meal then you are not welcome. Yet this place is presented as a Cafe. The girls there are patient and lovely but when this guy approaches you just told him you want to be served...

Heard good things about this place and the fact that it is managed by the same folks as Kitchensmith & 303 by the Sea (now closed) was promising. Located on Cafe Central: The Parade, Norwood, you have to be decent to draw the caffeine hounds and brunch seekers. We had their take on the smashed avo and the dish actually scored full points for presentation in terms of colour and general appearance. The flavour of the apple and the pickled pumpkin was delightful. Only a lack of yolk flow let them down here. Coffees were very decent; enough quality to warrant a second helping. The time of our visit was light on in terms of patrons and this was welcomed as I think that the hard polished floors would make for a noisy venue when packed. I do always enjoy seeing the workings of the open kitchen as it brings some accountability to the fare delivered to the table. Excellent Cafe, well presented and a quality outfit. Our waitress on this visit was 'going through the motions' or so it seemed. I hope that next time we will experience good, genuine and friendly service.

Came on a Friday around 12 and the cafe wasn’t too busy so it was easy enough to get a spot but took maybe 5-10 minutes to finally get someone’s attention for us to be seated. Not given menus so had to go get them ourselves. Took probably 20 minutes for someone to come and take our order which was a bit of a shock, and then another 20 for our coffee order to came out. Like I said, Friday midday and not very busy. At least not busy enough to justify the time it took for coffee to come out. Waiting aside, the food here was amazing. The portion sizes were HUGE haha. Definitely more than worth the price you pay. The quality of the food is fab. Lots to choose from and definitely would like to come back and try others. Hoping that the delay on service and coffee was just due to being understaffed or a mishap and is not regular service here because it would be a shame for that to be bringing down what was ultimately a pretty great spot to grab quality food.
