I visited this restaurant yesterday on Blessed Rainy Day, a very important occasion for us Bhutanese. Being far from home, I was really looking forward to enjoying authentic Bhutanese food. Sadly, this turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences.
First, the butter tea I ordered took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. Then, I waited more than an hour for my main course. No updates, no apology — only when the lady at the counter came to ask if I had even received my food did she realize I hadn’t. That alone shows how poorly this place is run.
When the food finally came, it was another disappointment. The beef datse had chillies bigger than my fingers — completely off balance and nothing like how the dish is actually prepared. The taste overall was far from authentic, and as someone from Bhutan, I can say it was not even close to the real thing. On top of that, the menu clearly stated that the main course would come with complimentary jaju or daw, but we never received either of them.
This whole experience was a complete waste of time and money. Extremely poor service, ridiculous waiting time, misleading menu promises, and food that neither reflects Bhutanese cuisine nor basic quality standards. I left frustrated and disappointed. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone seeking authentic Bhutanese food or even...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a warm, welcoming place to enjoy truly authentic Bhutanese cuisine, the Authentic Bhutanese Restaurant in Applecross is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is cozy yet lively, perfect for catching up with friends or family over delicious home-style Bhutanese dishes.
The food is outstanding – rich in flavour, perfectly spiced, and genuinely reminds you of the taste of Bhutan. Whether it’s the ema datshi, momos, or other traditional meals, every dish feels fresh and made with love. You can even find Bhutan’s own beer brands, including Druk 11000 and Druk Lager, which add a wonderful touch of nostalgia and authenticity.
What makes this place even more impressive is the excellent service, even when managed by a small staff- when I visited, a single staff was covering both the counter and the dining area with grace and efficiency. Despite being busy, the service remains warm, attentive, and friendly.
There’s also a karaoke section, making it a fun spot to sing, laugh, and unwind into the night — a rare find in Perth! Plus, parking is easy with plenty of space nearby, so it’s convenient for everyone.
Overall, this is a fantastic place to hang out, enjoy great food, and experience genuine Bhutanese hospitality right here in Perth. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic flavours and a relaxed,...
Read moreVery disappointing dining experience.
We waited a very long time for our food. We asked the staff multiple times about the delay, but they just kept saying the kitchen was “preparing.” By the time the food finally arrived, we were starving — and unfortunately, almost every dish was extremely spicy, even though we didn’t ask for anything spicy. I had to keep drinking water just to get through the meal. This place is definitely not friendly for anyone who can’t handle spicy food.
The food is also quite expensive. Given the quality and overall experience, the prices are not justified.
While the staff weren’t rude, they didn’t offer much help or provide any updates during the long wait.
There’s a karaoke setup in the restaurant, so if you enjoy loud and lively environments, you might find it fun. But if you’re looking for a peaceful meal, this place might not be for you.
Another major issue was parking — it was very difficult to find a spot. There simply isn’t enough parking for customers, and we had to spend a long time searching.
Overall, the food was too spicy, the wait was too long, the prices were too high, and the parking was a hassle. I won’t be...
