Bake my Life, Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in Ballina

Ordered a baguette and lamington. The lady grabbed it with her bare hands without using gloves or a utensil. She was serving customers moments before so was handling cash and didn’t wash her hands. She was also coughing. When I questioned that she doesn't use utensils to serve the food she went silent and said nothing and the guy there just said “for the lamington?” I said I saw her handle my food with her bare hands and that’s very unhygienic and I wouldn’t be going ahead with the order. I was ignored. Absolutely not acceptable, lazy and unhygienic. There were tongs within range she was just careless about doing the right thing. To touch the computer screen, handle payments and then touch someone’s food with your hands which haven’t been washed in who knows how long. Disappointed and I won’t be returning. It’s also a turn off when the food attendant is coughing all over the place. It’s not hard to be hygienic when handling food. I won’t be returning...

We have just called in to pick up a pie for lunch, after travelling down from the Gold Coast towards Lake Macquarie. We do bakery crawls, not pub crawls so we're picky when we judge pies. We've eaten a lot of them! We chose the chunky steak pie and can safely say it's up there in the best 3 pies we've ever eaten. Melt in the mouth steak chunks, no gristle, a subtle mix of flavours that tastes rich, but with a perfect amount of bite to the flavour, and short & flaky pastry that was a delight to eat. The staff were great and I'm now munching my way through a beautiful vanilla slice that is clearly an individual recipe that's different from the mass produced run of the mill stuff you get served up in most bakeries. I loved how the cakes and slices are clearly made by hand and aren't all a perfect size and form. Good effort guys! We'll be back next trip up to...
