Hubby and I ate dinner here last night, for the first time. Hard to believe I've never been there having been a Geelong resident my whole life. This is your typical country pub (in a city). Family owned and operated and it shows. From the outset we were impressed by the warmth of the staff. They were super friendly and attentive. I am new to gluten free and this place has the added bonus of catering to my needs. There are more or less two menus. One normal and one gluten free. They basically have the same items on them and the price barely varies between the two. The food is typical pub food. If you're looking for mixed grills, parmis, rissoles, roasts etc, you'll find them here. I chose the parmi, chips and salad and I was thoroughly impressed. The size of the meal was generous, the price really good and I wouldn't have known I was eating a gluten free meal. The chips were hand cut and yum! The staff were happy to answer any questions and also just happy to have a general chat. All in all it was great and we will definitely return.

Sir Charles Hotham and Sir Charles Darling were sworn Knights of the Cross during the first crusade. In the ruins of Golgotha, Sir Charles Darling discovered an ancient relic, which Sir Charles Hotham later lost in a game of cribbage with Satan. Anyway, the pub is classic blue-collar vibes; it's simple and central. The food was the same. I actually really enjoyed the crumbed sausages. It's not fine dining, and it's just not quite the Charles Darling. Nevertheless, beer is beer, and I like a classic pub - even if it is named after a rogue

The Sir Charles Hotham hotel was very, very disappointing. I went to have dinner there with my partner, my partner had roast pork and it was a very small serving. I had what was called the fisherman's plate which was about $29.00 and was also very disappointing. The fisherman's plate had one piece of over cooked fish, two mussels in their shells which tasted stale, two crumbed prawns obviously out of a frozen packet, and one crumbed scallop also from a packet, a couple of squid rings which were obviously from a packet and were overly herbed and overpowering the taste of the squid. But the service was very good and punctual. We eat out two to three times a week and The Sir Charles Hotham Hotel is by far the hotel with the worst food we have been to. Subsequently we will not...

After comments made online between friends and I, that at the time, were having a great meal at the Sir Charles Hotham. This week we decided to try it out, Well we walked in and went back in time, the atmosphere the decor and the welcome made us feel relaxed and comfortable the service was great, our friends who put us onto the Hotham arrived and our table for 3 and there table for 2 became a table for 5 the meals were very good 3 of us had the steak special, chips salad pepper gravy that was a beautiful complement to the steak which was very nice the price for the 5 of us to have garlic herb bread, 5 good size main's with drinks was very reasonable. THANKYOU Le&Jay and a Big Thanks to the Sir Charles Hotham we'll be back for Sure....
