Aspley Central Tavern — Restaurant in Brisbane City

I went to Aspley Tavern with my wife and son on February 5th. I had the calamari and a veggie burger, my son had chicken wings followed by a mushroom garlic pasta fish, and my wife had garlic bread followed by a risotto.

Mine was fine, but the calamari portion was really stingy. I’ve never seen so small a portion. My son’s was enjoyable and the wings were plentiful and tasty. My wife’s garlic bread was good, too, and filling.

However, I had to put in a complaint to the young waitress about the risotto. Risotto is supposed to be rich in texture and taste. I’ve eaten many in my life and cooked as many as that. This was nothing of a sort and had the texture of a watery gruel. In Taiwan, where I spent 20 years, they have a really great gruel called congee, which can be thick and delicious done right. This was nothing and resembled something that was made from leftovers. It had no consistency and no taste. In a restaurant, that shouldn’t be happening. I’m sorry, but no. That’s not acceptable for over twenty bucks.

My wife asked me not to complain in person, but I had to. I heard nothing of it after politely informing a young lady of my concerns. no follow up. Therefore no return customer.

Food is ok but service needs improvement. The waitress came out with my meal (fish and chips) and a parmi but my friend ordered the schnitzel. When my friend informed the waitress the meal was incorrect, the waitress said "oh it said parmi on our document" there was no apology or offer to rectify the incorrect meal. we were that hungry that my friend just took the parmi as she was starving.

The third meal never arrived so My other friend asked about her meal and they said the order went through, they have the docket and is on the way. One of the staff members came out to our table about 15 minutes later to inform us that the order in fact didn't go through and she would need to place the order at the till. We had both finished our meals at this stage. My friend went in and paid at the till and ordered hers again. The man behind the counter said he would give us a free round of drinks to apologise but unfortunately these never arrived either.

This place has potential but vibes are off and staff need customer service training. We dont have high expectations but I won't...

I chose this venue for our social group Christmas party, but wish I hadn't. They offered to book us in our own room and I had christmas games and presents organised for this. The tavern staff decided to move us to the public area instead and no one could hear the Christmas music for our games, or hear me because the music was loud and ran for a really long time. We wanted to hear live music AFTER our own festivities and would have opened the door then, but had no choice. It ruined the event. I spent a lot of time and money and the tavern staff ruined it. They also said they would have the Christmas tree up for our Christmas party but that was a lie too.
