As a man of a certain age and shape, I try to avoid fish and chip places. I don’t like seafood. As an experienced eater, my doctor advises me to avoid anything deep fried and sometimes I even listen to her. So grabbing a hamburger, chips and gravy from this place was a bit of a strange choice for me. When I got home I was annoyed, because I thought they got my order wrong and I would have to go back. Nope. The package that big was actually the hamburger. My god, what a hamburger. I didn’t think with everything getting smaller and worse and more expensive you could even get food like this anymore, let alone for this price. I would pay $45 for a hamburger like this not $15. Normally I have to pay extra for salad, and even then it’s just like burning money because they don’t put any on. In this case I’m actually glad I didn’t assume there wouldn’t be enough and ask for more. And so fresh! Not like the sad green tomatoes at Subways. I went back the next day to ask some questions and get a second example, just to pull apart and examine rather than (just) eat. They make their own beef paddies, and they are so beautifully lean I couldn’t squeeze a single drop of grease from it. They cut their own pineapple slices too, nothing from a can. I love the fact that beetroot comes on the hamburger by default, might be the last culturally Australian business left on the block. Most importantly the ratio of salad to lean meat restores this hamburger as a healthy choice. It is a hamburger so different from what the word means now, I would be completely unembarrassed to take a first date to experience one. The entire place just screams authenticity. The kind of place where the waitstaff don’t really jump to attention because they are probably all related to each other, and your order comes in an explosion of clean and crisp old style paper. This is all even without mentioning that my chips were slightly undercooked exactly as I requested. Try getting them to do that at McDonalds. Wow! I Ordered a 4 x cocktail fish kids pack. I got home to find 3 lousy chicken nuggets. What a joke. I call to say I’ve got chicken nuggets and no fish. The woman is so rude and continually acts dumb not accepting the order is wrong. She keeps telling me ‘that’s what you’ve ordered.’ I read out what the website states and I ask for a refund. She sarcastically tells me to go online and ‘TRY’ to apply for a refund. This is their website not a 3rd party website.

Fish shop? Best fish shop? Could have gone to McDonalds drive through for some nuggets.

*Below WAS the perfect example of their aggressive customer service in the reply to my review. I was accused of lying, doing it for a free meal, insulting a 15yr old worker and more… So their reply has been changed. It’s now all peaches and cream. I only wish I’d screenshot their original reply and uploaded it.

After being on the receiving end of your obnoxious attitude, I wouldn’t set foot in your shop again, no matter what you offered. Your first response was exactly who you are and how you handle a customer complaint.

BUYER BEWARE. Extremely poor...

My latest experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and that's before I ate. I ordered a half fish basket and my first issue, refusal to substitute the fish for a different species. Even though I said I'll pay extra for a better fillet, the server informed me the maths was too hard. So I ordered an extra piece of fish (snapper) battered at around $17. So in total my order came to $45. Oh and I had to pay extra for tartare. Sauce should be complimentary. When I opened the fisherman's basket it was mainly unsalted chips with one piece of crumbed fish, one crumbed prawn, one seafood stick, one crumbed scallop and one crumbed unidentified type of meat. Oh and two wedges of lemon. Not a grain of salt in sight. This meal was not worth the $29 I paid. The food was ordinary and almost cold. I've ordered from here in the past and been satisfied with the quality, but this time the ship has sailed. When questioned about the portion size and a possible refund, the person on the phone flat out refused. Not in the ACCC guidelines. Will not return. I hope this will be...
