I looked for a restaurant for a special occasion and after seeing an article which sung the heavenly praises of August (Church Pun) l was looking forward to experiencing a top class eating experience. Unfortunately the expectation exceeded the result. August has a unique design to it's eating experience with a couple sharing a plate of their choice after making their selections based on a SINGLE small sized paper menu . Nothing like twisting your neck and straining to read a menu at the same time as your partner to start of an eating experience. Service was basically cafeteria level. Yes there was smiles but as a whole you were let to fend for yourself. This was highlighted by the fact our used entree dishes sat in front of us for about 10 minutes or more which at a pub is no problem. Seriously the service was way below par for a restaurant that has such a high reputation. My hope is when you book a special restaurant for a special occasion you want to feel special. I'm also sorry to say the food we had was average . The crab omelette was the highlight but the pink snapper was overcooked and salted beyond what we could take and so we decided to pass on desert. Even paying the bill had it's moment when your presented with a tip page which starts at a suggested 15% needless to say I passed on that, which then needed the waiter to punch in a code to bypass that page.(What a laugh) Not good...
Read moreThis was the most wondrous and magical evening. The setting in a chapel complimented the sanctity of it all. The wine was way better than anything they’re serving at communion though. I’m not religious but for this restaurant, I would convert.
The dexterity of salt, fat, acid and heat is rife at August. Exemplifying that same showmanship of quality ingredients we grew to love at Bar Francine, these kitchen wizards are not chefs - but matchmakers.
With cupid’s precision, flavours such as jamon and tuna complement one another like the unsuspecting soulmates who were always made to be.
The moment I fell in love with August was NOT the chubby scallops with buttery blanquette and granulated black truffle. It was the most simple and obvious bite, which showed me just HOW GOOD rare beef with aoili, parsley and horseradish can really be.
It held together in every bite. I don’t even know how that’s possible. Physics are defied here. Every ingredient was singing in harmony with the next. The speckled flakes of salt on each parsley leaf with a drizzle of oil… guys. that’s love. that’s true love. there are no sonnets or ballads or soliloquies that show that amount of affection.
Don’t say another word. Get inside me.
I love you...

💗 Service was incredible, so sweet and intimate but never overbearing. Felt like we walked in and met with old friends. Well done team!
🍖🥗 The week’s entrees were tasty but a little bit too oily. We had something that resembled a gentrified Outback Steakhouse blooming onion (not derogatory)— ngl I wish I thought of this. The rare beef with red pesto was delishhhhh. Also we’re OBSESSED with the canelé shaped butter 😭
The texture of the pork was perfect and we loved it with the salad, just wish there was more. The cheesy brussel sprouts was insane! All executed very well but idk if the trio matched each other in harmony. The flavours were very homey comfort European— maybe it’s just not for my palette?
🍧 Dessert was incredible. Tart from the rhubarb, creamy nuttiness from the pistachio custard, a mild crunch from the meringue. A flavour and texture bomb explosion in your mouth. August team, you have outdone yourself with this! I will be dreaming about it forever.
⛪️ The ambience and atmosphere is insane. Tbh we came here being archi nerds to see what a restaurant in a church would be like. I would come here for the...
