The popular children's playground is routinely sprayed with 'Glyphosate' weed killer - a cancer causing substance. (As of 2024 the State of California is in court fighting to make it mandatory for manufacturers to label glyphosate products as a carcinogen). Why does BCC persist? Their actual answer: "its cost effective".
The LNP dominated Brisbane City Council clearly doesn't like spending money on a competitors (Greens) electorate: in 2023, the whole suburb including Orleigh Park was a sea of brown dead grass. Theres an infinite supply of water if we install permanent irrigation and use desalination - both VERY OLD and accessible technology.
The toilets in Orleigh Park are an abomination - circa 1960s? I spoke to a BCC "Swat Patrol" (they literaly dress like military) and he complained that people sh-t in the park, and in the same sentence "the toilets are locked at night". Seriously, this could be a comedy.
This park should be an inner city shining jewel, and whilst it is indeed beautiful while green during wet seasons, how can one ignore the cancer spray in a children's playground. Words...
Read moreThis is a lovely suburban park on the bank of the river. It's popular with large parties having barbecues on the weekend, so be sure to arrive early if you want to snag a barbecue or shelter with table. Youll be able to watch diverse ethnic groups having social events that often include music. As well as aforementioned barbecues and lots of lovely mature ficus trees (ideal to picnic under), there is also a fun children's playground and a paved path along the river (popular with walkers, joggers, cyclists and suitable for children on scooters etc). The citycat stops at one end of the park for easy Cross River access or access to the city. This park has fire spinners and drumming at night...
Read moreThis is a really delightful area of Brisbane. We really enjoy to have a wander along under the most magnificent big old trees!!! The beautiful grassed long walking area is directly on the river. It is generally very quiet as the speed limit for cars nearby is low 50 kph.
It is not usually crowded and people sometimes hang out in small groups or walk their dog.
The peace is only disturbed by the occasional jet ski but the passing CityCat transport doesn't really make a lot of noise. We find it interesting to check out the artwork on each City Cat. It seems this weekend they were all the Brisbane sport teams painted vessels ie the Lions,...
