Hellene Foods (Mega Continental) — Local services in Brisbane City

I think I died & went to heaven! Mega Continental is a hidden treasure - I’m so glad I took the opportunity & checked it out today. I thought it would be shelves of boring bulk food items - I was wrong!. Yes they do sell delicious Mediterranean/Greek food, but they also sell tasty Asian & Aussie product items too. The staff are wonderful, very helpful & friendly - plus ample customer car parks - which are located close to the entrance, (so rare in busy West End). My favourite area was the bakery area by the front counter, Greek custard pies, delicious baklava & fresh cannoli for $2. My suggestion is to buy the homemade Semolina sponge cake, 2 pieces for $6. If you’re having a friend over, you can say you’ve baked it yourself! They have a great cheese selection, if you are a spiritual person & want to cleanse a space, they even sell dried sage - $3.75 for a large bunch. The prices are very cheap in comparison to other supermarkets, Aldi included. The bulk olives bins are pretty impressive, so much variety, as it the dried herbs & spices. The even sell toilet paper & cleaning products @ a great price. This will be a regular spot for me now, I just hope...

Their off the shelf products are great and well priced however the bulk product they buy then package themselves has a lot of CROSS CONTAMINATION.

I can taste the residual dust of herbs and spices mixed in with powders and flours that I eat on their own or would have mixed in with dessert/baked goods. Now I love strong flavours but I prefer to add them as I desire not because staff were too lazy to clean equipment.

They really need to clean down their equipment between packaging up different foods. Never really had this issue when they were Hellene's so it could be either new staff/equipment/owners.

As for the rest, the floor staff are friendly and helpful and there's a wide selection of foodstuffs so it's great for the prepackaged pantry fillers. Pricing is on par with...

I have been shopping at Mega Continental for many years - often making special trips down from the coast to do this... Yesterday was very disappointing!! Firstly, instead of the friendly helpful staff who'd usually advise me about the olives and even let me taste, I was rather rudely asked to keep away and give the chap serving me some space... hmmm... Then at the checkout, the price of the oil advertised as a special on the board outside the door was $5 higher and when I questioned it I was told that the price had gone up, in spite of the clearly displayed sign at the door... Might be our last visit I'm afraid... We'll head to Triton's down the...
