Cafe 63
Everybody was busy doing something. Providing good customer service, and paying attention is not what they were doing. Avoid Cafe 63 if you’re accustomed to getting what you ordered and/or good customer service. Read on if you would like to know why.
My partner and I visited Cafe 63 for a late breakfast. Initially, service was prompt. A staff member followed us to our table and took our drinks order. Drinks came shortly after. It took a while longer to get our food order taken, as the staff member delivering our drinks didn’t ask us if we were ready to order food and, as I said; everybody was busy doing something. It took a few attempts to get the attention of another staff member; they seemed to be ignoring customers as they shuffled back and forth from kitchen to restaurant to counter, all without looking around to see what their customers might need.
Eventually we were able to wave down an employee who didn’t have an order book. After they ran off to get one they were ready to take our order. Well, they were at least standing by our table, writing something down and nodding a lot. I remember ordering “Two serves...” of a breakfast menu item. I received an acknowledging nod and a positive verbal confirmation from the staff member. They scribbled something down on their pad and went on their way.
About 2 minutes later someone brought over some cutlery, oddly one knife short of a pair. 10 minutes later, one of the two meals we ordered arrived, with no sign of a second, and no confirmation or conversation from the staff member, they just walked away. After a minute or two of waiting and wondering when the next meal would arrive we decided to ask a staff member about it. The answer, which took a few minutes to obtain, was; ‘she only wrote down one. One meal.’ We thought this was very odd, considering we had asked for two, and there are two people sitting at the table!
Clearly the staff member who took our order has somehow come to the conclusion that we only wanted one meal, and did not find this to be unusual or bother to check with us upon writing this down.
After asking the obvious questions, they went about rectifying the issue. A second serve was delivered in around 5 minutes. No apology, not even a smile. Just ‘business as usual’ for them, I’m sure.

Since writing the review 2 years ago the service was good & no problems with menu availability but recently during my last 2 visits over the past month it has dropped off badly. During March/April, ordered lunch abt 2pm, restuarant quiet, coffee arrived, abt half hour later no food had trouble attracting waiter attention told it was coming, abt another quarter hour again had trouble getting waiter attention, he eventually came back & said the meal I had ordered was not available as they had refrigerater problems & he thought he had told me????? Last week, again not a busy time, after having trouble attracting waiter attention, ordered coffee & sweet with cream & ice cream, after a considerable wait sweet arrived with cream but no ice cream & still no coffee, asked abt my coffee, advised still coming, after finishing sweet still no coffee, left after advising not waiting any longer & not paying for coffee or ice cream. Staffing seems adequate but not interested in taking orders, spend a lot of wandering & standing around looking for tables to clear despite no one waiting & avoiding eye contact or offering to take orders from those waiting.

Read moreDine quite often at Cafe 63 Hamilton for the last 4 years. Had good service and been there many many times even early morning hours. Used to have nice friendly staff, but not anymore. So rude. Bad manners. Until today we never been told or had any problems having 1-2 of us ordering Chinese food from next door when the other half ordered café 63 food or desserts. We did the same today, we decided to order 3 Chinese food and the other 3 of us were ordering Café 63 food and drinks. We got kicked out from rude staff names Toppie and Oum. We are a family with kids but they told us to sit separately because we ordered Chinese food from next door. When we moved table and sat next door Chinese shop, they packed our food/ drinks as take away and left at the counter. We were treated like dogs and felt like given doggie bag. We paid for our food and service was so awful that we decided not to come back again. They don’t speak good English that’s ok as long as they are not rude. I am also not an Australian born but they didn’t need to talk with bad manners. Toppie has big attitude staring at us entire time, like we were annoying because she had to clean our water glasses? I understand this is not a food court and just have to say sorry “no outside food”, they should at least allow us one last time as we have already ordered food, especially when the restaurant was not even crowded (only 3 tables were taken). We don’t deserve to have such a horrible service when we paid for our food. We will not go there again!! I don’t think a staff that cannot provide good service should work there.
