Customs House Brisbane – A Grand Blend of Heritage, Hospitality & Community Impact
Yesterday morning, I had the pleasure of attending a truly inspiring event at one of Brisbane’s most iconic venues — Customs House, located right in the heart of the CBD.
The occasion was the launch of “Understanding Australia’s Indian Communities: A Statistical Snapshot”, hosted by The University of Queensland. The event was a beautiful celebration of Indian-Australian friendship, diversity, and contribution, held in the magnificent Long Room under the heritage-listed copper dome.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm and dignified — the perfect setting for such a culturally significant and forward-thinking initiative. The University of Queensland team did a fantastic job in highlighting the vibrant role Indian communities play across Australia, supported by insightful presentations and meaningful data.
The venue itself, as always, was breathtaking. Customs House never fails to impress — with its grand colonial architecture, riverside location, and views of the Story Bridge. Whether it’s a high-profile event or a weekend brunch, the space offers elegance and character in every corner.
🥂 After the event, many guests gathered at Patina at Customs House, the in-house restaurant, for light refreshments. The service was seamless, the views unbeatable, and the quality — as always — top-tier. Whether it’s their modern Australian menu, high tea, or just a riverside coffee, Patina delivers every time.

✅ What I loved most: • A perfect venue for meaningful community and cultural events • Stunning architecture with riverside charm • Thoughtful hosting by UQ — professional, inclusive, and inspiring • Impeccable service at Patina restaurant • Celebrating diversity in such a prestigious setting made the moment even more special

💬 Final thoughts:
Customs House is more than just a dining destination — it’s a symbol of connection, history, and progress. Yesterday’s event was a proud moment for the Indian-Australian community, and this venue brought it all together beautifully. Highly recommend it for both personal outings and...
Read moreLovely find. Was searching for somewhere to eat at 9pm. Even though their kitchen closed at 9 the waiter vey kindly managed to organise a table to serve us. The food was pretty good! Have tried a few 'fine dining' restaurants in brisbane but, have not been impressed or wanting to return. After visiting customs house I was highly satisfied, and would definitely recommend to friends and family (for any occasion) and will return for sure!
Compliments to the chef and his palette as the menu comprises of a great mix of tasty ingredients, combinations of which I have not tried before. The menu is different, but all the ingredients seem to really go well together in the dish. Was so full from finishing the gnocchi (I dont usually finish rich meals either) but had to try the creme brulee which did not disappoint either! Definitely grab some dessert!
The view is undeniably one of the best in brisbane. Straight onto the story bridge. Thanks so nuch for feeding us so late. Won money at the cas after so had a free dinner essentially 😂😂
EDIT: came back and ohhhh my God best restaurant in brisbane legit!!!!! The service is outstanding! The only place that feels like fine dining for me. Ya ll at customs House need to do some advertising or something so more people know about you! It's hard to find this place... they don't have the best position so the only way is if you knew about it and were trying to look for it... Love that you changed up your menu although I think I loved the last menu...
Read moreI was really looking forward to a dinner at the Custom House and came out severely disappointed.
We had an atrocious waitress by the name of Giselle. Her service made what could have been a potentially lovely meal awful. She took 30 minutes to bring out one person's drink, while only taking 5 for another's. She brought the entrees out at two seperate times, leaving two members of our party sitting at watching the other two eat while still waiting for their own. She ignored us at certain times instead choosing to hover at the bar.
On top of this, we ordered 4 side dishes to accompany our main meal and none of them were brought out. The food we did receive was good, but not great. One member of our party ordered the steak done medium and it came out well done. The entire meal was just under $500 for 5 people and in my opinion it was in no way worth that.
I have never reviewed a restraunt online before, but I really felt that I had to for this one. The experience was that bad. I think the hostess realised this too, because as she was taking payment she didn't even ask for a tip or ask how the meal went. At every high class establishment I have been too, this has been the norm. I can only assume it is because she had realised just how much they had screwed up.
Overall, I would not recommend. If you want a great dining experience in the same price range go to Aria's or really just...
