04/04 - Ordered their Chicken Biryani (1kg), Payyoli (1kg) Idiyappam & Chicken Stew specials on Easter. Picked up at 12.30pm and by 4pm we noticed a foul smell emanating from the food. Initially dismissed this to be the banana leaf in which Chicken Payyoli was wrapped in. Around 5.30pm when I had a mouthful, realised the biryani is spoilt!
I was least expecting this to be the quality of food considering how passionate the team seem to be. Previous take-away experiences were not great too.
Note : Dine-in service so far has been superb!
Response to post on 06/04 - The food as you noted was not just foul-smelling but was spoilt when tasted. The weather that day was at circa 23/24C; it wasn't abnormally stored either. Why would I take the time to write a review if I didn't know how to store food! That'd just be Ludacris..
I can't speak for the person who bought 15 packs from you. Wondering if the container could be contaminated causing the food to spoil? Or the biryani was cooked at different times?
If people don't appreciate, I wonder how you have the reviews you have! I can only speak for me and I certainly did appreciate your restaurant for my experience in the past! So I am within my right to leave a comment when I end up with foul-tasting food in my mouth.
Nobody just wants to leave a review after 1 bad experience; I clearly mentioned that my take-away experiences in the past weren't great either, but never left a negative comment. This is the first time I have ever had food getting spoilt within 4-5 hours of purchase and that's...
Read moreDum n Rum serves the best Keralite food in Brisbane. Kerala is a state in the Southern part of India. Most Indian restaurants in Brisbane tend to serve North Indian food leaving a void for food from other regions in India. Dum n Rum does an amazing job in delivering authentic dishes from Kerela. I would highly recommend ordering from their specialities section of the menu when dining at Dum n Rum.
Dum n Rum have recently introduced Toddy to Brisbane. Toddy is sort of like a palm wine made from the sap of coconut and other palms. It is an alcoholic beverage which tastes slightly tangy and sweet. It pairs amazingly well with spicy food! This is something that is really hard to find in Australia, and you should definitely try it if you get a chance.
Having dined here on numerous occasions, we have had the opportunity to try many dishes from the menu. I have genuinely loved everything. The biryani, kappa biryani, beef fry, fish curry and kizhi paratha are exceptional. I love the fish pollichathu (whole wrapped in banana leaf and baked), but one should only try this if they are comfortable dealing with fish bones. For dessert, make sure to try the ada pradaman.
I have found the customer service to be exceptional here. The menu provides detailed explanations of the dishes, and the staff are more than willing to explain further and answer any questions you may have. You should definitely make a reservation before you visit as they can get very busy, specially on...
Read moreThis is our first visit to this restaurant. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and quickly ushered to our table. We preferred dining indoors due as a bit chilly outside. There are two electric heaters outside but doesn't cover the whole area. Excellent well laid out menu, huge food selection on offer. There is indoor and outdoor dining options. We ordered the following Dishes to try out massala chips, tandoori chicken, lamb / goat biryani, beef vindaloo and cheese and garlic naan bread 🍞. Massala chips was pretty ordinary - your regular chips with massala spice sprinkled over the chips 🍟. Unfortunately, the chips were a bit soggy and not crispy as we anticipated. Next we had chicken tandoori very small serving than normal there was no dipping sauce included so incomplete. My husband jokingly said because it was pretty obvious it was smaller serving and he said perhaps it wasn't a chicken it was a sparrow or a quail. chicken has that beautiful charcoal flavour mixed with tandoori spices. The biryani was sensational, full of flavour a hint of spice. The ratio between rice and meat was equally distributed. Service is pretty slow. We are halfway with our dinner we still haven't got our main dish beef vindaloo and the cheese and garlic naan was still missing. The naan and vindaloo finally arrived. The naan break was delicious. The vindaloo was beautifully cooked nice and tender meat pieces. Overall verdict, there is still room for...
