The food was pretty good, nicely presented as you can see, a good variety on the menu. Only some really small slights: food was just warm not hot, they all arrived together, which was nice, (but perhaps the warm food temperature was the cost); the crispy skin barramundi vegetable accompaniment was tasty and attractive; however, the barramundi skin was too tough and chewy to easily cut through and enjoy (more chew than crunch). The stuffed roasted tomatoes (on the specials board) were supposed to have the requested suggested option of grilled mushrooms in the side, but they didn’t and the half tomato just too firm and gourmet tomato, rather than a more tasty variety like truss tomatoes. Had one of the staff come and asked how our meals were, then they would’ve still had the sale of the side of $5 mushrooms. The only other thing which two of us would’ve appreciated was if the spinach was wilted off, instead of direct from packet to plate (to release the vitamins and balance the temperature, for these two hot meals (see photos of mushroom and eggs, and Barramundi). These were minor because our meals were unanimously satisfyingly and we ate everything. Just explaining why the meals were rated only 3 stars and not 4 or 5.
Acoustically (like most cafes there’s a lot of noise going on), and we found the volume inside, ironically, (normally they bounce off the glass), slightly better than last time, when we were outside in the courtyard.
The staff are lovely and friendly, but I did feel a little rushed making my drink order, without enough time to think and consider, being asked three times for my drink order that the waiter seemed determined to take at the same time as my friends and lock in with the food order. This was for after the meal and I’d have preferred to have been able to order them. While I really enjoyed the biscotti milkshake, it was too much and sweet, whilst I’d forgotten that I like their coffee and would’ve preferred that after the meal, but I succumbed to the waiter and peer pressure of dessert drinks. The others ordered the ginger hot Chocolate (also on the specials board), but unanimously described it as too sweet and filling (served in a tall, large mug), and they would have preferred size options, like coffee, and my friend left half of hers. This more reflects the pressure to lock in a post meal drink or dessert before having had the meal.
Overall, this was very pleasant and comfortable for us, we were seated at a round table, and we enjoyed...
Read moreUnfortunately the coffee machine was broken when we tried this place, the service was poor and what I mean about this is little things, and forgetting to bring things to the table, no smiles, and just ordering. We had flag staff down who half asleep and could never get her attention after that. Tables crammed together so we had to get up to let 2 tables past upon their departure. Paying we had to stand in line with other people who just arrived to place takeaway orders and who could not make up their mind. They didn't bring you the bill or eft POS to pay upon departure and we waited a long time to pay. Honestly, good at food but they don't understand basic food service systems. So if you can put up with no coffee, no additional asks for other items and 10 minute wait to stand in line to pay. Then it might be your thing. Love the neighbour vibe and food was fine. The cafe is outside place and its very cold as it was raining today and you sit on metal seats. They have wall heaters but did not turn them on. No music or atmosphere and it seems rather dark. They should also have a back up plan if their coffee machine goes down...small machine? or something small and manual. Takeaway muffins smashed into small containers observed in line. So packaging is issue. I would be bugged if I bought a beautiful decorated muffin and icing and food was smashed down with cardboard container. It was average but...
Read moreI’m only giving feedback on their coffee as I have never ordered any food from them. We stumbled upon Fuel & Co. right before we moved in to our nundah place and we were quite excited. As we both are picky coffee drinkers and we are very specific with our coffee. We both enjoy quality coffee. So when we realized our new home was just 40 m away from the cafe, we were quite ecstatic until we tried their coffee. I do realize small businesses relatively rely on good reviews and feedback and I am always fair and honest with mine. But for their coffee, I cannot give them a very high rating. I have had much better coffee. The first time I ordered a skinny cap and a soy flat white, and I thought it was alright. Not the best I had had but was tasty but then I went back and had their coffee again, I don’t know it just didn’t taste as nice. To me the coffee was lacking flavor and too strong and acidic to my likings. The milk they used tasted funny as well and didn’t go together with the coffee at all. I then ordered a long black from them and I was even more disappointed. The coffee again was really acidic and frankly speaking I could tell the coffee was burned and left a bitter aftertaste. After a few unpleasant experience I haven’t been back for their coffee. But the cafe is always busy so we prob will go back for their brunch and will update my review accordingly. But for now I’m giving them a 3...
