It was Saturday afternoon; we were hungry; we drove past (and back) to grab some late lunch here (hard to find a cafe open past 1-ish pm in Brisbane so we were grateful). The atmosphere is - interesting. Hubby and I felt like we'd wandered back in time - it's a lot hippie, kinda quirky and old-fashioned, seemingly staffed by folks they'd just grabbed from the street and who weren't very experienced in staffing a cafe. But they were nice enough. we waited and waited for our meal, but it was worth the wait. My coffee was great, hubby said his raspberry shake was deliciously cold and fruity and 'made properly' and in a metal canister. I ate a Frenchie toast with poached orange. I thought at first it looked a bit dry but it was amazingly tender (and not eggy, yay) and sweet, and full of cinnamon and sugar. I added hash browns. He had a veggie toastie with spicy and delicious vegetables (he added halloumi), well-toasted and full of flavour. The breads on both were very tender and moreish, not hard and sharp as you sometimes get in cafes. All up, we enjoyed our lunch, and recommend the food, as long as you don't mind being the oldest kids on the block. We were two generations above the usual crowd!

Spotted Gramps on our way to check out the Red Hill Salvos and decided to pop in for brunch on our way back. Street parking was easily available (mid-morning on a Friday) and we found a seat inside straight away, where it was lovely and cool even by the open door on a sweltering day! Plenty of cold water so we could hydrate while getting settled (even if I did get a bit of attitude from the blonde lass at the coffee machine when I asked where I could find it) and the menu was full of yummy things that made choosing something difficult! I knew I’d have food envy no matter what I chose so I went with the tuna smoosh on Turkish bread, and my brother and nephew had the Turkish eggs with hash brown and the poached eggs with guacamole respectively. Everything was perfection, and the coffee wasn’t bad either! All the other staff were delightful. Wish there was something like this nearer to home! Makes me miss living in Melbourne. Definitely a must visit if you are in the area ā¤ļø

I do like a couch, and stools, but otherwise this space has everything. For almost anywhere else this would be the highlight, but Gramps also offers a fantastic vibe and thoughtful, quality food. On this occasion the long black was very hot, and a little bitter. Breakfast gnocchi was the eventual very tough pick. Like the coffee it was very hot, although good for a cooler morning. A surprising amount of gnocchi in the dish but some variability in the texture. The toast was very light and served an important purpose in mopping up the the ā€˜vegan’ pumpkin and fennel cream sauce, which, was excellent and didn’t leave me feeling too heavy. In saying that as a compliment to the rest of the dish the parmesan and spices coating the bread didn’t feel necessary. The almond crumble had unfortunately had lost its crunch. Well priced, efficient service, always a consideration.

I really have tried to love Gramps but after a few goes I just can’t push past a bunch of things to enjoy the good. Yes, it looks really freakin cool in there, the artwork etc is beautiful. The plates and cutlery, cups etc… so nice. The aesthetics are there but that all means nothing when the service, food and human atmosphere ain’t it.

I have struggled with inconsistency with whoever is on the POS. I can’t eat much so I like to ask for one piece of toast and one egg with some butter on the side. Twice, this has been no issue and I’ve been charged adequately but today, someone different on the POS and my usual request was denied and I was charged for the two poached eggs on 2 pieces of toast and they just took one egg off and I had to pay full price. Super disappointing and wasteful.

I don’t understand the point of not having fixed or roving table numbers. Having to walk out the back and yell people’s names just doesn’t make sense to me. Someone in the area I was sitting had the same name as me. And what about hard of hearing of Deaf patrons? How would they know there food was being brought out?

The POS line up nightmare needs to and should have been mitigated years ago. Your own patrons are blocking the front door and causing a barrier to the only thoroughfare for staff to carry food in and out of the kitchen. I had a waitress say ā€˜sorry excuse me’ 5 times in the short time I was lined up to order a coffee. It makes zero sense. And is super uncomfortable for the people sitting at those immediate tables near the POS.

Not really something that the cafe has done wrong here but my god, the amount of children running, playing, screaming etc outside was an absolute nightmare. You guys need some kind of signage to remind parents to keep their children at their table and not screaming next to other people’s tables and running around bumping into people holding hot drinks.

I don’t think I can give it another go, which is unfortunate because your food is always cooked great and tasty, as well as your coffees but it’s just always a sensory nightmare to...

Deeply in love with Gramps. I am of a strong conviction that this is the best place in Brisbane for a coffee and brunch - please don’t try to convince me otherwise šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø From the moment you step in the door, you feel how much love and care has gone into creating this wonderful ā€œgrandparent’s living roomā€ inspired cafe.

The menu is simply delightful. Every dish no matter how simple has an edge and a twist that keeps you wanting to come back to explore more. There are options for every taste - from the soul-filling Turkish eggs to the good old classics like a toastie, plus heaps of delicious options for folks with dietary restrictions like myself.

The seating options are wonderful: choose a table at the front for people watching, get inside if you prefer an AC or head to the back patio area if you want some peaceful backyard atmosphere.

A spot for a mom date? āœ… Brunch with some old friends? āœ… Breakfast with parents? āœ… Meeting a colleague? āœ… Just a place to hang out and read a newspaper? āœ…

My only complaint is that I wish nobody else knew about this place so that it wasn’t as crowded on the weekend! Keep up the good work, team Gramps šŸ‘šŸ»

P.S. I feel guilty for going on and on about this, but closing at 2:30pm is the cherry on top. It’s so hard to find a good option for a coffee and lunch...
