I really have tried to love Gramps but after a few goes I just canāt push past a bunch of things to enjoy the good. Yes, it looks really freakin cool in there, the artwork etc is beautiful. The plates and cutlery, cups etc⦠so nice. The aesthetics are there but that all means nothing when the service, food and human atmosphere aināt it.
I have struggled with inconsistency with whoever is on the POS. I canāt eat much so I like to ask for one piece of toast and one egg with some butter on the side. Twice, this has been no issue and Iāve been charged adequately but today, someone different on the POS and my usual request was denied and I was charged for the two poached eggs on 2 pieces of toast and they just took one egg off and I had to pay full price. Super disappointing and wasteful.
I donāt understand the point of not having fixed or roving table numbers. Having to walk out the back and yell peopleās names just doesnāt make sense to me. Someone in the area I was sitting had the same name as me. And what about hard of hearing of Deaf patrons? How would they know there food was being brought out?
The POS line up nightmare needs to and should have been mitigated years ago. Your own patrons are blocking the front door and causing a barrier to the only thoroughfare for staff to carry food in and out of the kitchen. I had a waitress say āsorry excuse meā 5 times in the short time I was lined up to order a coffee. It makes zero sense. And is super uncomfortable for the people sitting at those immediate tables near the POS.
Not really something that the cafe has done wrong here but my god, the amount of children running, playing, screaming etc outside was an absolute nightmare. You guys need some kind of signage to remind parents to keep their children at their table and not screaming next to other peopleās tables and running around bumping into people holding hot drinks.
I donāt think I can give it another go, which is unfortunate because your food is always cooked great and tasty, as well as your coffees but itās just always a sensory nightmare to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDeeply in love with Gramps. I am of a strong conviction that this is the best place in Brisbane for a coffee and brunch - please donāt try to convince me otherwise šāāļø From the moment you step in the door, you feel how much love and care has gone into creating this wonderful āgrandparentās living roomā inspired cafe.
The menu is simply delightful. Every dish no matter how simple has an edge and a twist that keeps you wanting to come back to explore more. There are options for every taste - from the soul-filling Turkish eggs to the good old classics like a toastie, plus heaps of delicious options for folks with dietary restrictions like myself.
The seating options are wonderful: choose a table at the front for people watching, get inside if you prefer an AC or head to the back patio area if you want some peaceful backyard atmosphere.
A spot for a mom date? ā Brunch with some old friends? ā Breakfast with parents? ā Meeting a colleague? ā Just a place to hang out and read a newspaper? ā
My only complaint is that I wish nobody else knew about this place so that it wasnāt as crowded on the weekend! Keep up the good work, team Gramps šš»
P.S. I feel guilty for going on and on about this, but closing at 2:30pm is the cherry on top. Itās so hard to find a good option for a coffee and lunch...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was Saturday afternoon; we were hungry; we drove past (and back) to grab some late lunch here (hard to find a cafe open past 1-ish pm in Brisbane so we were grateful). The atmosphere is - interesting. Hubby and I felt like we'd wandered back in time - it's a lot hippie, kinda quirky and old-fashioned, seemingly staffed by folks they'd just grabbed from the street and who weren't very experienced in staffing a cafe. But they were nice enough. we waited and waited for our meal, but it was worth the wait. My coffee was great, hubby said his raspberry shake was deliciously cold and fruity and 'made properly' and in a metal canister. I ate a Frenchie toast with poached orange. I thought at first it looked a bit dry but it was amazingly tender (and not eggy, yay) and sweet, and full of cinnamon and sugar. I added hash browns. He had a veggie toastie with spicy and delicious vegetables (he added halloumi), well-toasted and full of flavour. The breads on both were very tender and moreish, not hard and sharp as you sometimes get in cafes. All up, we enjoyed our lunch, and recommend the food, as long as you don't mind being the oldest kids on the block. We were two generations above the...
