I try to support this chain whenever I can because I really believe in what they are doing, they have a great independent selection of movies and the iconic sites they restore - its amazing. So when I saw the Red Hill Cinema had opened I was keen to support because I remember the skate rink and was upset when it burned down. Therefore I don’t really want to write a negative review but I want this business to succeed and if someone in authority reads this – things might improve? The staff are very friendly but are young, inexperienced and incompetent. Today I saw 'Fantastic Fungi' - which is a great film. The ticket cost $19 and the sound was not synced to the vision - which didn't ruin the experience entirely but I wouldn't have paid $19 if I'd known that I would have to look away from the screen every time an expert spoke to camera so I could hear what they said rather than be distracted by this technical error. That occurred for approx. 50% of the movie. There was also a safety issue when the staff didn't turn the house lights on at the beginning of the session so people could find their seats. Elderly people and children in wheelchairs along with the rest of the audience were forced to use their phones as torches in the blackness. People were tripping over each other and dropping things - it was a real safety risk. I told the staff what happened and they were completely unapologetic about either issue. I don't understand why there are no Quality Assurance checks in place? Earlier in the week I saw '1917' and had a texmex gourmet toastie for $14. There was a small serving chips which were good but the toastie was a disgusting mess of cold soggy white bread which tasted like vomit. Its easy to avoid the hot food – but I can’t pay that much money for a movie and not be able to look at the screen. I hope this review makes them change the way they manage...
Read moreI recently came to your establishment and was utterly flabbergasted. I still can’t stop thinking about it, it’s upset me so much. The only reason I ended up seeing the movie and not just walking out the door is because I had paid for an Uber to get there.
Good to see this former theatre and Skate Arena transitioned and reopened as a cinema house. Features three cinemas that are decked out with lovely looking leather chairs. Unfortunately there chairs barely recline. The foot raisers only elevate your legs a small amount and for me not enough to feel much comfort. The maximum position was quite uncomfortable after a time as all the pressure was left on my lower back target than an equal roll back to a relaxing position. Cinemas are up stairs and toilets downstairs so if you need to go during a movie be prepared. Also downstairs are the bar and coffee service. On our visit the staff seemed a bit confused and unclear about procedures and prices etc as the centre had only been opened a few weeks. Hopefully this will resolve. Things like prices on all foods for sale eg ice creams and getting drinks or food delivered to your seat. We didnt know this was available until someone (after two trips out of the cinema herself) was offered a delivery! There are some bar stools and tables for eating or having a wine or coffee before or after movies. There is a short snack style menu e.g..wedges. The decor is great featuring street art as was typical of the building prior to the revamp into this very pleasing and unique cinema house. Will return hoping they will screen some of the more off beat...
