When this place first open shop a couple of years ago it was steadily becoming a favorite with many locals and visitors. I cannot say the same now, after the change or mismanagement of this place. This place is very disorderly unorganized, customer service poor and quality of the food is downhill to quickly becoming just a fast food joint. Let me explain the experiences. Upon ordering I had the two ramen guys manning the shop stand around chatting and were obviously too busy picking songs on his ipod thing and not caring in the world that a customer was standing at the counter to place an order. Not only that was an issue, the Audible levels and choice of punk rock/pop song choices was put up so high that the two chaps were literally standing next to each other and shouting at each other because one of the bright sparks decided to feel a bit musically high (As if it was pub/karaoke venue). I am surprised that neighboring businesses/shops haven’t came in to let them know their music is far too loud for a small confined venue. Secondly, as observed around the place was not busy, yes not busy, only 1 customer just finishing a bowl of noodles. The place had soup bowls, napkins, chopsticks, cups that were left around the place and most obviously flies were buzzing around the dirty bowls and cutlery. From the time entering to finishing my ramen not one of the lads bothered to clean the place up. Thirdly, for sake who knows whatever reason? one of the lads decided to wheel In a wheelie bin into the kitchen next to soup pots and open it up to throw some stuff in, it was noticed by one of the customers who joked about the wheelie bin being there, they probably were shocked as I was too. Not only is this extremely poor hygiene this should not take place near pots of soups and cooking utensils. The lead ramen cook is extremely rude and has poor to little customer service skills. When I asked for a top up of ramen I was ignored or perhaps the ear drum blowing music was too loud for him to hear perhaps? When I got his attention he gave me the disgruntled nod like I was inconveniencing him. When upon receiving the bowl of ramen, he waved the bowl over the counter and not said anything to acknowledge my attention to receive it. It was sort of like “here, here take the noodles, hurry”. A simple “ Excuse me sir here are your noodles” or “Here you go thanks” Lastly as observed and as a regular ramen patron of many shops, I noticed that when they first opened they greeted all their customers upon arrival and upon leaving. And is, I believe customary to the Japanese culture to greet upon arrival and leaving. However my experiences of recent, this is not the case anymore, if you arrive and leave, they don’t care in the world to give you a friendly bye see you next time that sort of thing. They are too busy partying around in their ramen shop, pumping loud music, that customers are of an inconvenience and that they don’t seem to care retaining repeat customers. Sunnybank Plaza Hakatya Ramen need to revisit proper training and bring in a lead ramen chef to provision and look after the place properly, these young lads are in for a party and don’t care about customer service, hygiene, professionalism, manners and consistent to work ethics. I am sure there are other customers whom have had a similar if not worse experience. Pay attention to the other ramen shops as this place is going down like a sack of potatoes. The ramen franchise should be ashamed of this poor performing shop.

This ramen joint has been around for years and it's still very popular amongst Asians in Sunnybank. If you like Japanese street style ramen noodle soup, you will like Hakataya Ramen. I really loved the broth used in their spicy miso ramen. It's a balance between the spiciness from the chilli powder and the miso bean curd taste. Extra noodles is still free of charge and you can ask for it when you order your ramen. And I love that they still give out free birthday ramen on your birthday to say thanks to their customers. The staff were all very friendly and approachable with good English communication skills.

I always drop by Hakataya ramen when I want a quick meal and I'm in the mood for some spicy noodles. I always get the karakamen which usually has just the right amount of hotness but sometimes not enough, I wonder if I can ask for more spicy? It's a simple ramen - broth is very flavoursome (sometimes too salty), basic sliced pork, good standard noodles, tasty takana but a small serving - if only I can exchange my free kaedama for free takana. Would love for there to be more side toppings (like bamboo shoots, egg, etc) but that's not Hakataya I guess. $13 isn't cheap for a ramen with so few toppings.

The service is really poor here and the food is average. Many times we went there and the staff are not friendly but grumpy. Btw, if claiming the birthday ramen make the shop staff think the customers are begging for free food, then you might as well don't provide it. You are not the only shop that provides a birthday discount and it's all just a way of promotion. This is my last time visiting this shop for sure.

Extra: I was there on Tuesday, 9th November. We order 2 ramen plus 1 birthday ramen and 3 extra noodles. But only one extra noodle got delivered with the ramens. We hold our tongue and wait till we finished all the noodles, we then asked for the other 2 served. And again, only 1 got delivered. That's when we checked with the staff that we ordered 2. It's at this time, the staff told us "birthday ramen can't have a free extra" and while she is saying this to us, she did not even look at us.

Thank you for offering the birthday ramen and we are totally okay it doesn't come with extra noodles but what about telling us in advance? We are paying for the ramen and won't mind paying for the extra 1 dollar. But I don't know it wasn't even an option to us when we claim for the birthday ramen.

There was also another time my husband took my little girl to eat noodles. Despite the shop saying you need to order before sitting down. Some customers just took seats without ordering first. When my husband is alone, he can't secure a seat while ordering ramen in the queue.

The staff has no intention to assist him and simply told my husband there is NOTHING they can do. My husband already ordered noodles and don't have a seat. He end up standing in the shop and put my daughter in a high chair to finish the ramen. No table no service no assistant.

I remembered we start eating hakataya ramen back in 2006(?) when you only have 1 shop in Gold Coast. I still remember how the ramen wow me and how amazing it tastes. Despite over the years, you have grown your business and become this giant chain ramen shop, we still enjoyed having your noodles because we love the memory and love your slogan 一麵入魂. I remember all...

Poor Service, Rude staff, ramen not as nice as when first opened. This ramen place must of changed owners or management recently?

When my wife and I asked for more noodles the ramen guy casually brushed us off and walked past us, when I did get their attention then proceed to wait over 15 minutes as they forgot! By then my soup got cold, no apologies but just shove in our face like we were begging for more noodles. I can tell you, these guys have no manners or customer service skills whatsoever.

Since my last two visits I noticed that the tables and seating areas are always unclean, left with eaten soup bowls and chopsticks. The workers as I’ve seen, casually laze around checking their phones or chit chat to one another, when clearly there are customers waiting to be served or order.

I’ve also noticed their prices have gone up on each ramen a couple of dollars, I really cant see how they can warrant the increase with their poor service? Ramen soup looks also halved compared to when they first opened and mind you last couple of times have been luke warm temperature soup, this brings a fatty taste to the pallet and definitely not one you want to experience. Taking our business elsewhere, ramen champion seem to be a...
