Visited Sushi Edo at Sunnybank Plaza on a relatively quiet day when there was no line outside. The restaurant offers plenty of seating, including booths and a bar area. However, I noticed a booth that was overcrowded, and despite their conversation, they weren't given an extra chair or alternative seating options. Unfortunately, we weren't informed about how Sushi Edo operates, including the ordering process, water service, and availability of condiments. Additionally, the table we were seated at was dirty, and the seat had food remnants stuck to it. There were also large bottles of cleaning fluid visible on the back wall, contributing to a strong chemical cleaner smell in the air. When it came to food, it took quite a while for our ordered plates to arrive. Unfortunately, the sushi was poorly constructed; it was falling apart on the plate and completely disintegrated when we tried to pick it up. While the menu advertised a variety of options, the dishes did not match the advertised appeal. The flavors were lacking, and the taste and texture were not what you would typically expect from sushi. On a positive note, there is a 'loyalty program' available for regular patrons, so it's worth inquiring about if you plan to return. One thing to keep in mind is that there's a 1.2% surcharge for card payments, while cash payments incur no additional fees.

I don’t know if the chef has done any proper sushi training but the quality of their sushi is kinda bad. It’s either crumbling as you pick it up using chopsticks or it’s all over the place when delivered to us. It seems that the Newmarket store is better compared to the one in Sunnybank. The Tobiko nigiri is below average as the tobiko portion is very tiny as they use cucumber to fill up the space. I know Tobiko is not an overly expensive item and I expect to hv a bigger portion instead of filling up with cucumber slices. You can really test one sushi restaurant skills by ordering the Tuna maki, unfortunately the tuna maki from Sushi Edo is full of visible sinew (white tissue / tendons). Not very pleasant. I suggest they go visit Sushiro / Kappa / Kura/ Hama / Genki sushi or more up market chain like Sen-ryo in Japan or Asia to see how it’s done. Music is way too loud for my liking. Price is ok for Aussie standards but not cheap. Water is readily accessible so u don’t need to ask for a refill which is nice. Place is spacious, bright lighting with standard seating comfort. Parking is easy. Staff attitude is nice. You get 3% discount if pay by cash.

Tasty but like all japanese cuisine its pricey had udon noodles plus i wanted to try some sashimi, i think i had king fish a few slices of raw fish, plus noodles costed over $20, i guess its a good experience if you haven't tried it before but seriously you could get well fed with other dishes on the menu for a cheaper cost its the price you pay to mix up your culinary experience other then eating burgers, example i just got a SMS for a deal for dominos for a "buy one newyorker get one free". Thats one pizza is cheaper then my sushi experience PLUS i get a free one, just one pizza pie you'd be eating for ages let alone two So to some it up, the noodles were great very tasty, the kingfish was ok, was like eating a nori roll (sushi) you get at a sushi shop that are popping up everywhere, i would prefer to try raw squid or shellfish, cost almost $10 for a tiny dish with a dollop of wasabi. It was fun but its not something I recommend all the time if you want to watch you hip pocket 8/10

The first time I tried Sushi Edo in Brisbane CBD, the food was great, fresh, and tasty.

So today, I wanted to have some again, thinking it would be like the first time, and came here to eat with my family.

Unfortunately the food was disgusting; we didn’t just order sushi, we also ordered udon, some desserts, and side dishes. Somehow, everything was either mediocre or straight up bad.

First thing I order is some salmon nigiri…. it’s warm. It might just be my preference, but I prefer my nigiri and raw salmon/fish slightly chilled. It made it seem like it wasn’t fresh and had been left outside for a while.

Ironically, when I ordered aburi (flame-seared) it was cold, when typically it’s hot or a little warm if served fresh. And why did my salmon aburi have SO much onion on it? The flavours were not in harmony.

The udon we got was so bad, it may just be our preference but it was too fishy and seaweed-y. It’s not that we have a problem with fishy tastes, we love seafood pho, Thai dishes involving noodles and seafood, etc…. but these udon noodles lacked any other flavour or seasoning, we only ate it because we were starving travelers.

Unfortunately, even the fried calamari we ordered was somehow soggy and soft (not crispy), the fried ebi wasn’t that great, and oh my goodness… the chocolate “brownie” was an abomination. I’m still upset about the brownie, I was craving a good brownie so badly :(

The teriyaki (?) tofu was also way too jiggly for our liking, you couldn’t even cut it in half, it jiggled around like water and would come right back up after you tried to cut it. We like slightly firmer tofu.

The only food we enjoyed was the renkon chips (fried lotus root), which was so tasty and crispy. I 100% recommend it. But I cannot recommend anything else from this place.

The staff were a bit slow and forgetful, but they were very busy so I understand and give the service 4 stars. They were kind and rectified themselves after being forgetful; but the food of this place was just so bad… I’m only giving it 1 star because 0 stars isn’t an option.

If I want sushi, next time I’ll go to the Sushi Edo in...

This WAS one of our fave sushi places. NOW NOT SO!!!!! Plate prices have recently risen to $4.80 from $4.20, but the quality and portion sizes has definitely declined. Service has definitely declined. Used to buy a $2.50 bowl of steamed rice. The bowl would be a standard size Asian rice bowl nicely done shaped over the top. Tonight I paid for a “bowl” of rice that resembled maybe a 2 tablespoons worth of cooked rice. It came out in a much SMALLER bowl ( similar to a an Asian yumcha teacup” completely flattened down to be level with the bowl. Definitely NOT what the picture on the iPad displays. The portions of fresh salmon in the mini rolls now are almost halved and the roll is bulked up with rice. We were shown to our table but there were no sauce dishes. After asking the waitress for some, they were delivered about 10 minutes later and just thrown onto the table and she rushed off. The wait time for water we ordered from the iPad was almost 15 minutes. Again, just hastily placed on the table while the staff hurried off. There were no napkins left in our dispenser and the soy bottle was empty. The staff seem very understaffed and no one had time for...
