I finally got to checking out herve's in Albion in March. It didn't disappoint. Located on top of a brewery and bar. Entry at the back, go up a staircase, and you're stepping into a beautiful appointed restaurant. As you would expect from a classic French restaurant service was on point, glasses always topped up and complimentary bread with butter. Starting off the meal with a glass of Perrier Jouet grand brut and jamon croquettes. Beautiful start to a meal with a glass of champagne. Followed by sandcrab souffle, light fluffy and moreish. Mains was an excellent cooked fish with a side of beans. The sauce with the fish was so good I almost licked the plate! Selection of cheese and then dessert was amazing chocolate, and mandarin pairs well. Would definitely go back. Service is polished and friendly.
UPDATE July visit
Update decided to come back in July and try the new menu. Starting off with jamon croquettes again and a glass of champagne while looking at the new menu and wine list.
The menu and wine list seems to change very regularly, allowing guests to explore different things each visit. Settled for a bottle of cobaw ridge pinot noir.
Entree was a hard choice but decided on the Tasmanian lobster risotto. The risotto was cooked perfectly with tender grains of rice with large chunks of lobster. Main dish was Duck both breast and confit leg with parsnip. I love duck so can't fault the dish was nice tasting and cooked very well. Enjoyed with a side of carrots
Dessert I opted for the special of basque cheesecake with berries and sorbet. Definitely very nice rich creamy texture. Finished off with a glass of sweet dessert wine. I was alittle disappointed no chocolate option on the dessert menu
It was a busy Saturday night, and on talking to some of the staff, they said they were a bit understaffed. This i understand can happen, but the service was a huge different from last time and didn't really reflect the premium experience and price point. I did chat with the sommelier, and he was great each time he came over to the table.
Will maybe wait a while before I return so service levels can hopefully get...

Review: Had a surprise dinner at Hervé’s for my birthday and loved the experience. We got there 30 minutes early so we went next door into their wine bar. Of course, we had to have a few drinks and try some champagne and cocktails. When it was time, we went next door to the lovely, intimate style dinning area. We decided to get 4 Kilpatrick oysters but there was a little problem and we ended up getting two and then another two later on (which was fine). The oysters were nice with a rich sauce but they could have been a bit bigger. Next, we tried the steak tartare which was amazing. There was a generous portion of fresh, tender meat that worked perfectly with the hazelnuts and crispy croutons. For the mains we got the lamb and tenderloin which were both amazing dishes. All the meats are cooked over an open flame which we could see in the open style kitchen. We tried the lamb first which was perfectly cooked with a combination of flavours. We did think there could have been a bit more though. The highlight for us was definitely the black angus tenderloin. This was cooked to perfection and almost melted in my mouth. The French know how to do a mashed potato and this creamy mash added a softness to the dish. We got the chocolate tart for dessert which was a little bit too bitter for my liking. The sorbet counteracted it a bit but not enough haha. Loved the compilatory dessert though! It was like an Opera cake made with layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, layered with ganache and coffee French buttercream. Loved the service and atmosphere, would recommend. Read moreAverage. Rather disappointing experience I must say. Attended on Saturday evening for partners birthday and based on the reviews, our expectations were high. Whilst the food was good (except for the large fish bone in our snapper agnolotti entree) the service was riddled with a host of unacknowledged bundling errors.
After ordering our drinks and a snack from the menu and receiving these items the waitress proceeded to remove the menus from our table which left us wondering what the next step was from here, it would appear that we simply sit there idle until another waitress realized that we were simply sitting there bewildered and bought back the menus minutes later. We then ordered a martini that made its way to our table in what could only be described as a waitress on roller blades as 1/4 quarter of it ended up on the serving tray, but she still proceeded to pop our drink on the table with no acknowledgment that our martini was most definitely shaken and not stirred. When our mains arrived the waitress then (in her clumsy fashion) bumped my glass and knocked my belongings on the floor. This just set the tone and summed up how the night had tracked from the get go and for what should have been a special evening. We simply had to laugh it all off between myself and my partner and write this one off as a ‘at least we got out of the house occasion’
For what they deem is a high class establishment I would say there are far better options out there for the price. Not to mention the host of males wearing tshirts, shorts and asics trainers was absurd, which went against their dress code policy and yet again, summed out the clueless service on offer. What’s the point in having a dress code if it means nothing?
No waitress introduced themselves by name, no dish was explained as to what it was and included, all things I would expect from a good quality restaurant.
Anywho, the food was good, service clumsy and overall experience average. Better options out there for...
